Mount Pulaski tops El Paso-Gridley 10-0

[May 16, 2025]  The Hilltoppers were off to a fast start on Thursday in El Paso, jumping on the Titans for six runs in the first inning, en route to a 10-0 win in five innings.  

 

Chance Payne led the Hilltoppers with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate that included a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.

Payne drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single in the top of the first. Luke Martin tripled to center to drive in Payne and Liam Smith, making the score 3-0. Preston Cowan, Tyler Cross and Eric Cooper also had RBI singles as the lead climbed to 6-0.

Payne added a run to the scoreboard on his lead-off home run in the fourth inning.

Chase Roberts slugged a double that scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning for Mount Pulaski. Martin’s sacrifice fly later in the inning lifted Mount Pulaski to a 10-0 lead.

The Titans only had three hits in the game off starter Eric Cooper and they were no threat to score in the fifth inning either as Mount Pulaski won the game by the ten-run rule.

Eric Cooper got the win for Mount Pulaski. Cooper worked five innings, allowing three hits, zero runs and he struck out four batters. He did not issue a single walk.

Preston Cowan was also 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI for the Hilltoppers.

Luke Martin was 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Eric Cooper, Liam Smith, Tyler Cross and Chase Roberts also had hits for the Hilltoppers, who finished with eleven hits total.

Mount Pulaski (19-5) will host Warrensburg-Latham today at 4:30 p.m. at Veterans Park.
