Carter Clark led Mount Pulaski by going 2-for-4
with four RBIs and a run scored.
Eric Cooper was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Liam Smith, Chance Payne, Luke Martin, Aaron Volle and Preston
Cowan each had a hit for Mount Pulaski.
The Cardinals had four hits and scored three runs in the top of
the first inning off starter Luke Martin.
Mount Pulaski answered by taking a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the
first inning. Eric Cooper and Carter Clark each had hits in the
first inning while Chance Payne, Luke Martin and Tyler Cross
each walked. Mount Pulaski sent nine men to the plate in the
inning.
The Hilltoppers extended the lead to 8-3 in the second inning.
Preston Cowan’s two run double was the big hit of the inning.
Mount Pulaski scored five more times in the bottom of the third
inning, Four walks, an error and a hit by pitch were scattered
among hits by Cooper, Payne and Clark. Clark drove in two runs
on a single and Payne plated a run on a double.
The Cardinals RBI double in the fourth brought the score to
13-4.
Liam Smith led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a home
run. Martin followed with a double and he scored after a balk
and a wild pitch. Aaron Volle concluded the scoring with a home
run of his own to make the score 16-4.
Preston Cowan pitched to four batters in the top of the fifth
inning, recording one strikeout.
Luke Martin got the win for Mount Pulaski. Martin worked four
innings, giving up seven hits and four runs. He walked three and
struck out four.
The Hilltoppers (20-5) will travel to Monticello (25-5) today
for a 4:30 p.m. start versus the Sages. [Teena
