Mount Pulaski sophomore Piper Tyson will
compete in the IHSA Class 1A Girls State Track and Field
Championships at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston
today.
Tyson will compete in the shot put beginning at 11:00 a.m. and
the discus beginning at 1:10 p.m.
Tyson set a PR in the shot put with a toss of 11.23m (36’10.25”)
at the sectional meet, finishing in fifth place.
She also set a PR in the discus with a throw of 37.77m (123’10”)
at the sectional meet, finishing in second place.
Tyson is coached by her dad, Shaun Tyson, who says she is really
excited for the state meet.
“There are a bunch of local girls that are really good and they
will be at the meet with Piper,” said Tyson. “They have a great
camaraderie among them. After State comes USATF and the hammer
throw, which is her favorite. She’s in the top five in the
nation in her class in that event.”
He also added, “Being her coach is my privilege.”
Good luck at State, Piper! [Teena Lowery] |
