East Peoria beats Lincoln 2-1 in extras

[May 28, 2025]  The Lincoln Railers are hosting the Class 3A girls softball regionals at Schweitzer Field this week and unfortunately they were the visitors on Tuesday night. The girls fell 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning versus the East Peoria Raiders.   

 

East Peoria scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after a lead-off triple led to a run on a fielder’s choice.

Lily Holmes tied the game in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice bunt that scored Emma Hutchison. Hutchison had led off the inning with a single and advanced bases on an error and a sacrifice bunt by Madisen Wurth.

The Raiders stranded two baserunners in the bottom of the seventh inning, sending the game into extras.

Lincoln had a single in the top of the eighth inning but could not get a run across.

In the top of the ninth inning, all three Railers struck out.

A one-out triple followed by a double in the bottom of the ninth inning resulted in East Peoria scoring the winning run.

Madisen Wurth took the loss for Lincoln. She worked eight and one-third innings, giving up two runs and nine hits. She struck out five and walked zero.

Lincoln had eight hits in the game.

Regan Kutz was 2-for-4.

Grey Gilbert, Morgan Sheley, Laurynn Mayberry, Emma Hutchison, Madisen Wurth and Lily Holmes each had one hit for Lincoln.

Addison Duncheon was the winning pitcher for East Peoria.

Lincoln finished the season 15-18.
