Substance Use Prevention Coalition discusses how to reach local schools

[November 14, 2025]  The Substance Use Prevention Coalition (SUPC) met for its monthly meeting at Lincoln Memorial Hospital on November 13. The mission of SUPC is to prevent youth substance use, provide community education, and disseminate resources in Logan County. The goals of the SUPC are to decrease sustained alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use in youth in Logan County. Illinois has the Regional Substance Use Prevention grant and several other grants that support the work of substance use prevention.

Coalition members discussed how to reach schools in Logan County with better support for substance use prevention and who to contact at the various schools. The decision was made to resend a survey to collect suggestions of school contacts and to continue the discussion at December’s meeting. The coalition reviewed the questions that they will ask school contacts, including administration, teachers, and counselors, as key interviews to find the best way to support the individual school environment and share information, training, and resources.
