Downtown Lincoln meeting discusses
upcoming events and holiday offerings

On Wednesday, November 11, the
downtown Lincoln business group held their monthly meeting. With the
upcoming holiday season, they discussed several events planned
downtown.
Friday, November 21 is Pink Friday. Participating businesses will
stay open later that evening and will donate ten percent of the
day’s sales to the Lincoln Woman’s Club. Melanie Welch, owner of The
Bee said this event, which is a week before Black Friday, is
intended to get people in the stores.
At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28, the Winter Wonderland Festival
tree lighting will be held around the courthouse. Kathy Williams,
owner of Small Town Creations, said there will be approximately 150
trees this year.
Small Business Saturday is November 29. Members of the Lincoln Area
Music Society will be performing at various places downtown that
day.
November 29 is also the one year anniversary of the downtown
bookstore Ink and Imprint. Owner Julie Bates said they will have
cake and face painting at the shop that day.
This year’s Christmas parade will be Thursday, December 4 starting
at 6:30 p.m. on Wyatt Avenue and going around the downtown square.
The theme is “Christmas Light Up Parade” and Williams asked downtown
businesses to light up their stores.

The next retail therapy day is Saturday, December 6. With a purchase
in a store, people will receive a small, wrapped Christmas gift from
the retailers.

The County Board
will be hosting some photo opportunities in Scully Park several
times in December. The Grinch will be at the park Friday,
December 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Bluey will be there
Sunday, December 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. Another chance to meet the
Grinch will be Saturday, December 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. Santa will
be there Saturday, December 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Elsa and
Anna will be available for photos Sunday, December 21 from 2 to
4 p.m. There will also be
several chances for people to take downtown carriage rides. The
first opportunity will be Friday, November 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. right
after the tree lighting. The next chance is Saturday, November 29
from 12 to 3 p.m. In addition, carriage rides will be offered
Saturday, December 6 from 12 to 3 p.m., Friday, December 12 from 5
to 8 p.m., Saturday, December 13 from 12 to 3 p.m, Friday, December
19 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 20 from 12 to 3 p.m. All
carriage rides will be weather permitting.
Christmas Express starts Friday, November 28 and runs through
Sunday, December 14. Cards can be picked up at area businesses and
participating retailers will stamp cards after customers make a
purchase. When ten stamps are collected, cards may be returned to
any of these businesses and must be turned in by December 14.
Tuesday, December 16, there will be a drawing for a chance to win a
$25 gift card from each participating business.
During the holiday shopping season, some of the downtown businesses
will stay open until 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays to give people more time
to shop.
