			Pumpkins, princesses, and Super Mario
Brothers mingled with dinosaurs, mermaids, and ghosts while roaming
the courts of the Lincoln Park District on Thursday night, all in
fun. Halloween came early at the Rec as the tiny fantastical
creatures tried their hand at a variety of games set up by over 20
local businesses and organizations. All contestants were winners as
costumed children were presented with a choice of candy from
brimming bowls after attempting challenges such as ring toss, candy
corn bowling, or chucking toilet paper rolls through a “witches’
pot” that bore strong resemblance to a toilet seat. There were also
play areas, a photo contest, and concessions, plus a booth for
choosing temporary tattoos and one to guess the number of candy corn
			in the jar.

Upon arrival, families were greeted by Park District staff and given
goody bags to collect their candy prizes. Many parents and
grandparents had also caught the Halloween spirit and joined the
children in costume. Park District volunteers, Rotary Club members,
local veterans, members of the Lincoln Community High School
National Honor Society and other volunteers kept the candy bowls
filled and the encouragement coming, resulting in many hundreds of
happy Trick-or-Treaters by the end of the night.
