On Saturday, October 25th, Lincoln
held its annual “Trick or Treat with the Mayor” event at and around
the Lincoln Courthouse Square. The weather was chilly, but not
unbearably cold. Many different businesses in the area participated.
Some of the businesses had tables set out outside their store,
handing out candy to the kids walking by. Some of them had candy
bowls set up somewhere inside their store.

Some of the business owners got
dressed up for the occasion as well. Kathy Williams, owner of Small
Town Creations, dressed up like a scarecrow. She also had a large
Beetlejuice inflatable arch that she set up over the sidewalk.

In the middle of Latham Park,
Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch and his wife Annette Welch were set up
handing out candy to all who came by. This year, the Mayor was
dressed as Buzz Lightyear, and Mrs. Welch was dressed as Woody from
Toy Story. In addition to candy, they were also handing out maps to
the parents with the locations of all the participating businesses.

The streets were filled with all
kinds of costumes, many worn by kids, but some parents were dressed
up too. There were princesses and monsters, superheroes and popular
characters. Two children were dressed up as the characters Bluey and
Bingo from the popular Australian show Bluey. Two young men were
dressed up in inflatable alien costumes. One young boy was dressed
up as a dinosaur, and another was dressed as Batman.
The event went on for a couple of hours, ending around noon. There
were still plenty of kids out and about trick-or-treating as noon
began to approach. Overall, this Trick or Treat with the Mayor was
yet another very successful one, and makes one anticipate next
year’s.
