Obituary

Rita E. Meyrick, affectionately known as "Mega" or "Mamo" to her beloved grandchildren, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, at the age of 72.

Born on July 30, 1953 in Lincoln, Illinois to Mary Meyrick, Rita spent most of her life there, sharing her warmth, humor, and joy with everyone she met. She graduated from Carlinville High School and then devoted her life to caring for others, working at the State School, Zion Lutheran School, Christian Child Care, and providing housekeeping services in the community.

Rita’s personality was infectious. She never knew a stranger and seemed to collect friends as easily as she collected her beloved Santas. Her laughter, quick wit, and bright smile brought joy to everyone around her. She had a love for classic rock, peace signs, VW Beetles, and the Hallmark channel, but her true happiness came from her family—her grandchildren, Rowen and Oliver Buss and Lucas, Hazel, Amber, and Nathan Bucciarelli, were the lights of her life, and she took immense pride in each of her children: Bill (Lacey) Buss, Mary (Jamie) Bartels, and Joshua (Candace) Bartels.

A devout Christian, Rita lived a life of faith, love, and generosity. She was a steadfast supporter of family and friends through life’s challenges, always offering encouragement, guidance, and unwavering love. She is now joyfully reunited with her mother and brothers, running on the streets of gold to embrace those who have gone before her.

She is survived by her three children; her beloved grandchildren; her brother, Jim (Elizabeth) Meyrick and sister Bernadette Connig. She was preceded in death by her mother and brothers Carl Kelly and Bill Meyrick.

Cremation rites were accorded, and Holland, Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is entrusted with her care. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Monday, September 22, 2025, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home to honor Rita’s remarkable life. Visitation will be Monday from 11 AM until 1PM also at the funeral home. Those who knew her are asked to celebrate her memory by sharing laughter, stories, and love in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Bill Buss or Josh Bartels to assist with expenses.
