West Lincoln Broadwell wins Regional Championship

[September 18, 2025]  It was a long time coming but the West Lincoln Broadwell Wolverines baseball team won the Class 1A Regional 9 Championship in Hartsburg on Wednesday night over the Chester East-Lincoln Panthers.

The Wolverines won the game 11-1 in six innings.

WLB pounded out 14 hits.

Kruz Froebe, Griffen Cross, Masen Cross, Brantley Conrady and Brodie Glenn each had two hits.

Colby Bowman, Evan Clements, Tanner Cheek and Keilin Sales each had one hit.

The game was tied 1-1 after an inning, but it was Kruz Froebe who broke the tie with a bases-loaded inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Tanner Cheek added an RBI single in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-1.

Masen Cross slugged a two-run single to give WLB a 7-1 lead in the fourth inning.

Griffen Cross tagged a 2-2 pitch to center in the fifth inning that scored Brodie Glenn and the Wolverines commanded an 8-1 lead.

The Wolverines added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game early. Glenn’s double to center was the big blow, scoring two runs. Sales added an RBI single to right field and it was ballgame over.

Kruz Froebe earned the win on the mound for WLB.

Froebe worked six innings, allowing three hits and one run. He walked six and struck out five.

The Wolverines collected their regional championship plaque and Colby Bowman picked up the IESA Sportsmanship Award.

Kole Heiser of CEL won the Sportsmanship Award for the Panthers.

The last time WLB won a baseball regional the year was 2015.

WLB (15-5) will play Bloomington Corpus Christi (14-6) for the sectional championship this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Lincoln Junior High School.
