Lincoln Community High School (LCHS)
celebrated Homecoming week with many special activities including a
brunch for alumni on Saturday morning, September 20, to tour the
facility, learn about recent building updates, and enjoy a breakfast
prepared by LCHS culinary students. LCHS Foundation board president
Tom McLaughlin welcomed patrons to the school and invited them to
enjoy a self-led tour through the hallways of the high school to see
how things may have changed since they graduated.

The brunch was prepared by students
in Kelly Triplett’s LTEC Culinary Arts class. The buffet featured
five kinds of quiche, french toast, roasted potatoes, fresh fruit
salad, five kinds of sweet bread, coffee, and orange juice. Members
of the LCHS’ Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
club catered the meal as a volunteer project under Triplett’s
guidance.

While enjoying brunch in the
cafeteria, patrons could view a slideshow of school renovations and
improvements from the past three years, including new flooring and
furniture throughout the school, updated classrooms, labs, sports
fields, locker rooms, stage, and student transportation. To view the
slideshow of the improvements to LCHS building and grounds please

For a minimal additional donation,
patrons were able to take home LCHS Foundation swag including USB
ports, flashlight keychains, pens, chip clips, and shoulder bags.
Railer apparel and other items were also for sale.

Rachel Jording,
LCHS Foundation Business Manager and Treasurer, said the board’s
goal “is to make sure the public knows the foundation exists and
can support our mission.” The mission of the LCHS Foundation is
“to enrich lifelong learning programs and provide educational
opportunities for LCHS students. This Foundation provides funds
beyond the normal operating budget for community educational
programs not available through tax revenues. It is a non-profit,
independent, tax-exempt organization governed by a volunteer
Board of Directors, who are business and professional members of
the community with a commitment to education. The Foundation
acquires these scholarship funds through generous donations made
by members of our community.”
Donations to the LCHS Foundation are used to reimburse students
the costs of dual credit courses and testing for college credit,
to cover participation costs for students needing financial
assistance to afford extra-curricular activities, to provide
graduates with scholarships to college and vocational school, as
well as other miscellaneous needs that may arise. Annually, the
LCHS Foundation awards over $85,000 in scholarships, over
$15,000 in dual credit reimbursements, and over $3,000 toward
student sponsorships. Donations to the LCHS Foundation may be
made with a gift of cash or check, as designated gifts in honor
or in memory of a loved one, or as a beneficiary of estate
planning. For more information about the LCHS Foundation, please
