Limestone defeats Lincoln 9-3

The Lincoln Railsplitters managed just four hits Friday night versus Limestone and that was not near enough as the Rockets won 9-3.

Grady Rutledge had two of Lincoln’s hits and he was responsible for one run driven in.

Limestone led 4-0 after the second inning but Lincoln would come across with two runs in the third inning.

Cooper Koehler and Grady Rutledge each singled in the inning and Karson Komnick walked to load the bases. A ground out by Austin Lucas scored the first Lincoln run and an error scored the second run.

The Rockets plated three runs in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth inning to take an 8-2 lead.

Lincoln loaded the bases in the sixth inning but just scored one run on a fielder’s choice by Rutledge.

The Rockets scored again in their half of the sixth inning and with Lincoln retired easily in the seventh inning, the game ended with Limestone notching the 9-3 win.

Grady Rutledge was the starting pitcher for Lincoln. He gave up nine hits and seven runs. Rutledge took the loss while walking one and striking out three batters.

Brett Hayes pitched two innings in relief, allowing two hits and two runs. Hayes walked one batter.

Hunter Long was the winning pitcher for Limestone. The Rockets used four pitchers who combined for eight strikeouts.

The Rockets committed five errors.

Lincoln did not commit a single error.

Grady Rutledge, Bryce Vlahovich and Cooper Koehler provided the hits for Lincoln.
 


Lincoln fell to 7-6 on the season.


Lincoln sweeps Prairie Central in double header


The Lincoln Railsplitters defeated Prairie Central 8-2 and 10-5 on Saturday in a double header at Fairbury.

Game one

The bats came alive on Saturday morning as the Railsplitters pounded out ten hits in their 8-2 win over the Prairie Central Hawks.

Austin Lucas was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Grady Rutledge was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Cooper Koehler was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Owen Comstock and Bryce Vlahovich each had one hit.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Railsplitters came back with two runs in the second inning.

Two errors and two hit batters put the first Lincoln run on the board. Carson Fuiten scored Lincoln’s second run right before the inning ended on a double play.

Rutledge and Cooper singled in the fifth inning and with a walk to Vlahovich in between the hits, the Railsplitters were able to score a run to increase the lead to 3-1.

Lincoln produced five runs in a big sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

The inning began with a walk to Fuiten and two hit batters. After a pitching change, Austin Lucas met the new arm with a base hit to center to score two runs. Grady Rutledge followed with a single to drive in another run. Owen Comstock then produced a two-run single to help Lincoln to the 8-1 lead.

The Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the seventh before the game ended with an 8-2 final.

Kane Komnick earned the win for Lincoln. Komnick threw six and two-thirds innings, giving up three hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out six batters.

Tate Aue pitched to two batters in the seventh inning, giving up one hit and recording one strikeout.

Three pitchers took the mound for Prairie Central and combined for six strikeouts.

Chase Simpkins suffered the loss.

Game Two

Lincoln had eleven hits versus the Hawks in game two and needed extra innings to get the 10-5 win. The two teams were tied 5-5 at the end of the seventh inning when Lincoln exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to earn the win.

Several Lincoln hitters were swinging a hot bat.

Carson Fuiten and Grady Rutledge each led the team with three hits.

Fuiten was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Rutledge was 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Karson Komnick and Austin Lucas ignited the top of the lineup with two hits apiece.

Karson Komnick was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. He had one walk.

Lucas was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Owen Comstock was 1-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs.

The top of the first inning began with a walk to Karson Komnick followed by singles by Lucas and Rutledge. Owen Comstock’s grounder to short resulted in two runs crossing home plate and Lincoln was on top 2-0 early.

Karson Komnick’s sacrifice fly in the second inning scored Fuiten with the third run of the game.

By the bottom of the fifth inning the Hawks had tied the game.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Prairie Central took the lead on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

Lucas, Rutledge and Comstock started the top of the seventh inning on fire for the Railsplitters. Lucas singled to right and he trotted home on a triple by Rutledge. Comstock swung at the first pitch and drove it to right for a base hit, tying the game 5-5 when Rutledge scored.

Fast forward to the ninth inning and Lincoln was ready to end the game. Three walks loaded the bases and Fuiten came through with a base hit to right field to drive home two runs. The right fielder was busy in this game. Chase March then scored on an error. Karson Komnick switched things up a bit and singled to left to drive in Fuiten. After Austin Lucas was hit by a pitch, Rutledge followed in his at bat by swinging at the first pitch and driving in Kane Komnick with the final run of the game on a fielder’s choice.

Bryce Vlahovich retired the Hawks fairly easily in the ninth inning and he picked up the win. Vlahovich worked the last five innings of the game, giving up three hits and two runs. He walked five and struck out four batters.

Tate Aue started the game for Lincoln. Aue threw four innings and gave up five hits and three runs. He walked one and struck out three batters.

Prairie Central used two pitchers with Nathan Aberle getting the loss. Lucas Steidinger started the game and he struck out four Railsplitters.

Lincoln is now 9-6 on the season.

The Railsplitters will seek win no. 10 when they take on Champaign Central Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on Mike Curry Field.
