Pike Creek Wind Farm construction
to begin

Initial roadway construction
associated with the Pike Creek wind farm will begin soon. This
project will be located in southwestern Logan County roughly between
Broadwell, Elkhart, and Middletown. All of the construction will be
west of Interstate 55. A total of 34 wind turbines are expected to
be constructed.
Over 22 miles of roadways will be improved and more than 50
cross-road culverts will be replaced.
The initial phase of road construction is expected to begin in late
August and will last through mid-October. This road construction
will be to provide access to the proposed Operations & Maintenance
area on 275th Avenue. Approximately 5 miles of roadways will be
improved during this initial phase in 2026.
The remaining 17 miles of roads will likely be improved in 2026 to
provide construction access to the turbine locations. Construction
of the tower foundations will be done in 2027, and erection of the
turbines is expected to take place in late 2027.
Occasional road closures will be required over the next few months.
Most culvert installations will be completed with a daytime closure.
However, some larger culverts may require multi-day closures. Cement
stabilization will require road closures that may last up to 1 week.
This will include a closure of County Highway 10 (a.k.a. 700th
Street) west of the I-55 Exit 115 interchange.
Signs and barricades will be erected to warn traffic of these road
closures. Local residents will still have access to their homes.
