Postville Courthouse celebrates Abraham Lincoln's 217th birthday

[February 10, 2026]  Saturday, February 7, at the Postville Courthouse, a birthday party was held for Abraham Lincoln. This year marks the 217th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth.

To celebrate, Site Director Denise Martinek had a table set up with cupcakes, cookies and punch.

In one of the side rooms on the first floor, Mike Anderson played music from Lincoln’s time on his dulcimer. One song Anderson played was “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” Before he played the song, he told the story about how and why it was written. The next song he played was from Lincoln’s presidential campaign. During the celebration, visitors could also browse the courthouse and see Lincoln memorabilia and learn facts about his life. The upstairs courtroom is made to look like the one Lincoln practiced law in.

Just inside the front door, Martinek had various Lincoln related souvenirs, games and books available for sale.

The Postville Courthouse is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays from 12 to 4 and by appointment at other times. Come explore the courthouse and learn more about the man the town of Lincoln was named after.
