He attended St. Michael Grade School and graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in 1959 before joining the U.S. Army. Mike was most proud of his 22 months of service in Korea.

As a young man, Mike enjoyed working at his Uncle Jim Frain’s hardware store in Worth, Illinois. Upon his return from the service, he took a job with Harris Bank in Chicago until his employment with Jewel/Osco. Throughout his long career with Jewel/Osco, he held different positions in store locations across the south suburbs of Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

On his 24th birthday in 1965, he married Barbara Ann Casey. They were married for 50 years before her death in July 2015. Together they raised three children, Victoria, Douglas, and Glenn. He was beloved as an Assistant Boy Scout Leader and assisted his boys' high school track teams. Throughout the late 70s and 80s, he served as a role model for several youths who battled addiction. He was also very involved with the local Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth Seton, serving as a Eucharistic Minister.

During their retirement years, Mike and Barb traveled across the country by RV to visit family and friends.

Mike loved learning. He earned an associate degree from Moraine Valley Community College and attended college classes at DePaul and Chicago Circle.

Mike Fundator will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by daughter Victoria, and son-in-law Sean Crawford, son Doug and daughter-in-law Bonnie (Nowak), and son, Glenn and daughter-in-law Amy (Van Ooy) and six grandchildren who call him Papa: Cole Fundator, AJ Fundator, Brooks Crawford, Luke Fundator, Nathaniel Fundator and Casey Fundator.
