Senators knock Railsplitters out of regionals 2-1

[May 29, 2026]  The Springfield Senators ended the Railsplitters season on Thursday with a 2-1 win over Lincoln at Mike Curry Field in Class 3A regional baseball action.

The two teams were scoreless through five innings.

The Senators broke through with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. A walk, a single and two sacrifice bunts allowed the Senators to plate those two runs off Lincoln starter Carson Fuiten.

The Railsplitters scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning with Cooper Koehler starting off the inning with a single. Koehler moved to second on a wild pitch. After a walk to Karson Komnick, Austin Lucas singled to load the bases. Grady Rutledge hit a fielder’s choice to short to allow Koehler to score. Lincoln would leave runners on second and third when the inning ended.

Chase March and Tate Aue reached base on walks in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Railsplitters but they were left stranded when Jacob Scheffler came in to pitch and he quickly struck out Koehler and Kane Komnick to end the game.

Lincoln had three hits versus the Senators.

Grady Rutledge, Austin Lucas and Cooper Koehler each singled in the game.

Carson Fuiten took the loss. He pitched the complete game, giving up six hits and two runs. He walked one and struck out three.

Brody Scheffler got the win for Springfield. He worked six and one-third innings, giving up three hits and one run. He walked three and struck out eleven.

Lincoln ends the season with a 22-11 record.
