Obituary
Paul Richard Mason,
88, of Middletown, passed away September 2, 2026, at
Memorial Hospital of Springfield.
Visitation will be
from 5-7 PM Tuesday, September 9, 2026 at Holland
Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. Graveside services
Wednesday, September 8, 2026 at 11 AM at Irish Grove
Cemetery, Middletown.
Paul was born June 21, 1938, in Menard County,
Illinois, the son of Andy and Lena (Sheneman) Mason.
He married Ellen Marie Boward in 1957.
Paul graduated from Middletown High School and
worked as a union carpenter for the state of
Illinois at Lincoln Developmental Center for 32
years. He was a hard worker and enjoyed an ice-cold
Stag. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge 2708 in
Lincoln and was an avid pool player. He enjoyed
attending his grandchildren's sporting activities
and was always there to cheer them on.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Mason; his
children Jeff (Angie) Mason and Joanie Johnson; grandchildren Justin (Kaitlin)
Mason and Katie Mason (Ben); great grandchildren Paul Mason and Jack Mason;
sister-in-law Carol Mason, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his
siblings: Nick (Wanda) Mason, Ed (Margaret) Mason, Frank (Helen) Mason, Bob (Georganne)
Mason, Pat Mason, Helen (Sam) Greco, Betty (Bob) Smith, Ruth (Bill) Killion,
Hazel (John) Peters, Dorthea (Jim) McElderry, Carolyn (Bill) Johnson, and Judy
(Donald) May.
Memorial donations may be made to the SIU Medicine Smith Alzheimer's Center and
will be accepted at the funeral home.
