Community tradition continues
with 2015 Atlanta Fall Festival
“Harvest Time”
W
ith the summer drawing to
a close and the cooler fall
weather starting, the Atlanta
Fall Festival on September
10 - 13 was a perfect time. From Thursday
through Saturday evening, the festival
offered entertainment for the whole family,
food, contests, auctions, fire truck rides,
a parade, and Bingo; and concluded on
Sunday morning with an all-community
Worship Service.
As festival coordinator Tom Parks said,
“Lots of the community come out. They like
to eat and see many neighbors and friends.”
Hosted for over fifty years by the American
Legion, it is an event that takes months of
planning. Parks said that he and the festival
committee begin planning in April as they
book entertainment for the weekend.
This year, the Atlanta Band played Thursday
evening, the Cattle Bandits provided
entertainment Friday evening, and Audra’s
dance group performed Saturday afternoon,
and several sang karaoke on Saturday
evening. Zeller Amusements supplied the
carnival rides and games.
Besides the usual festival fare, such as
corndogs, french fries, lemonade shake-
ups; and a newer favorite, walking tacos
by the Christian Church; each night a
different community sponsored a dinner with
the Atlanta Rotary Group serving a pork
chop supper on Thursday, the Atlanta Fire
Department serving catfish and walleye on
Friday, and the Atlanta Methodist church
serving a BBQ chicken dinner on Saturday.
As a group of men tended huge grills of
chicken out in the open air on Saturday, the
wonderful aroma wafted across the park.
The theme for Saturday’s parade was
“Harvest Time” with several young farmers
marching in the parade led by Grand
Marshal Robert Ford, a resident of Atlanta
for nearly seventy years. Other notable
entries were Prince Lucas Sloan and
Princess Brooklyn Upp, Cinderella and her
entourage, and the Olympia Marching Band.
The festival, a long-time community
tradition, is a great time to spend the day
visiting with family and friends and enjoying
what Atlanta has to offer.
