Page 136 2020 Hometown HEROES Magazine LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 14, 2020 Logan County artists and Lincoln Art Institute present: W hile public gatherings, including displays and performances of the arts, are suspended for a period, the Logan County Arts and Lincoln Art Institute have put together a virtual show for you. The April exhibit is themed, Black and White. Through a range of media, artists styles express individuality and diversity in topics. You can see their works in LDN, or go to the Logan County Arts Facebook or Instagram. LCA President Jason Hoffman explains, “I think this is an important time for us to follow a main goal of LCA, which is to promote and participate in activities which connect the arts and the community. Our doors may be shuttered, but we can still express understanding and encouragement to others through our artwork. May sound a little sermony, but I think it’s true.” LCA member Pam Moriearty endorsed Hoffman’s views, noting that “Artwork can help to put things in context, to counter the stressful hype of the media. John Ruskin said, “No good is done to society by the pictorial representation of its diseases. Art is part of the cure – not escapism, just a reminder that the world is far more than the scope of this current crisis.” One work on display will be a unique portrait by Moses Pinkerton. He notes, “As anyone who has gone to the paint store knows, there is no such thing as just black and white. I decided to take advantage of this to make a collage portrait of Abraham Lincoln. When pasted side by side, the subtle differences in the shades of white on pieces of paint chips produced the contours of Lincoln’s face.
