2020 Hometown Heroes

2020 Hometown HEROES Magazine LINCOLN DAILY NEWS May 14, 2020 Page 3 WHO SERVE IN THE TIME OF CRISIS T his year, 2020, will remain in our memories for many years to come. The Covid-19 Pandemic has taken over our lives - dictated where we can go, whether we can work, and has changed our very way of life. It is the crisis of this generation. What will come to our minds when we look back and remember 2020? Instead of dwelling on the obvious and the negative aspects, the staff of Lincoln Daily News wants to call your attention to those in our community who have been shining lights and have brought positive and uplifting involvement, interactions and services. These people, the heroes of our county, some who even work without compensation, serve sacrificially because they love people and they realize the need. When the going gets tough, these people get going. Despite the risks, our essential workers faithfully have gone to their jobs to make it possible for the rest of us to remain healthy, safe, receive needed goods and sustenance, and in communication. And, then there are those special homebound heroes who looked for amazing and creative ways to fill the gaps, lift up people, and help provide for them. The two groups - essential workers and volunteers - are the glue that have held our community together. These heroes brought a smile to our faces (even under masks) and warmth to our hearts. They deserve our gratitude, our appreciation, and to be remembered as the ‘what really happened in 2020.’ And so, in this magazine we celebrate Logan County’s Hometown Heroes. And together with our readers, we say “Thank You! Well done, good and faithful friends!” [Jim Youngquist, publisher]
