And he delivered with sincerity and humor so that his point was made without causing you to ever doubt his loyalty. It was rare that he ever asked for help in return so that when he asked, you knew he really needed it. He was a member of Kiwanis and we served as co-chair for several years on the spaghetti dinners. His can-do attitude made for a great team. I was fortunate that he shared some of his recipes with me since I don’t believe he shared those easily. Seeing him walk in would always lighten your mood. One of the sounds I miss the most is his loud guffaw when he found something to be humorous. His absence causes me to realize we need more Roys in this world.” Logan joined the staff at Lincoln Daily News in 2014. Working with Karen Hargis in the advertising department, Logan had a way of not asking, but telling his customers that advertising with LDN was the right thing to do. Hargis noted, “Roy has been a great asset to LDN. He came at a time when we needed someone who knew the community and was invested here. We are a better paper because of his abilities and his love for us and his customers.” One local businessman said that Roy Logan came to visit him one day to talk about advertising and Logan recognized that the businessman seemed down. Logan came to find out that the businessman’s mother had just passed away, got up and came around to the other side of the desk and gave the businessman a lingering, comforting hug. This came as a pleasant surprise to the businessman who said Logan had an unusual sensitivity and a genuine desire to bring comfort. The businessman said we need more Roys in the world. Each year over 5,000 Relay for Life events take place to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Logan was part of the Relay for Life team “Friends and Family.” He was instrumental in helping with the team’s drive thru cookouts with all proceeds going to benefit ACS. In 2018, LDN started a campaign called “Paint the Paper Pink” in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Not allowing it to stop at that, Logan co-founded the Pink Pumpkin Auction, along with Cindy Guyett. Together they orchestrated two popular auctions raising funds for American Cancer with huge community support.
