2014 SPRING HOME AND GARDEN “OUT OF THE ORDINARY” LINCOLN DAILY NEWS.COM May 1, 2014 3
Out of the ordinary
S
ometimes we go too far discrediting the ordinary. There is
nothing wrong with ordinary! Ordinary is what we see all
the time, what surrounds us, what fills our days. Ordinary
is tried-and-true, the result of accumulated wisdom. Ordinary is
good. Ordinary works! Everybody buys and sells ordinary. But
because we see it all the time, we’re just a little bored. We’re up
to our eyeballs in ordinary.
What attracts our interest, what we want to hear about, read
about and see, are things that go beyond the ordinary, or take
a new look at the ordinary. We long for the extraordinary. Our
minds seem to want something new to think about, something
different to consider and something new to attempt (or
decidedly not).
And so, in this Spring 2014 Home and Garden edition, talented
Lincoln Daily News staff writers present subjects that are just
beyond the fray, a little out of the ordinary.
All these things and practices exist in Logan County. They can
all be done here, and some of your neighbors might just be
doing them. They aren’t secret, but they aren’t ordinary either.
These articles not only present out-of-the-ordinary subjects but
give you a leg up, if you want to try them.
Why be ordinary when you can be, well, extraordinary.
