Great Aunt’s Sugar
Cookies
2 cups lard or shortening
3 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup cornstarch
6 1/2 cups flour
In large mixture bowl, cream together lard and sugar. Add eggs,
buttermilk and vanilla. Sift together baking soda, cornstarch
and flour. Gradually add to creamed mixture. Chill dough. Roll
out on floured surface and cut into shapes. Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake.
Note: These can be iced instead of sprinkled with sugar if
desired.
