2012 Art and Balloon Festival
Craft fair, flea market and entertainment venue in
lovely Scully Park expands
This weekend’s Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival is bigger and better than ever with plenty of fun
and food for everyone. There are new activities and the return of favorites like last year’s giant
kites flying at the airport on Saturday afternoon.
One of the expanded venues is the Oasis-
sponsored craft fair and flea market in Scully Park.
There, with over 100 booths assigned, you will find a
variety of vendors, many from all over Logan County,
who will set up shop for the weekend.
The market boasts all sorts of items, from
handmade doll dresses, tutu dresses and cedar
furniture to antique toothpick holders. There will be
something for everyone to purchase.
Kenneth Hutchinson from Beason will offer
handmade cedar pieces such as tables, yard and porch
decorations, and birdhouses. Like many vendors, he
is hoping for great weather so the crowds come out.
The art and balloon fest also provides a place for
Hutchinson’s grandchildren to come and spend time
watching balloons and enjoying the atmosphere.
Ivan and Roberta Rademaker are from Emden,
but they take pleasure in the short drive to Lincoln for
the flea market. Making furniture is Mr. Rademaker’s
retirement hobby. He will offer handmade quilt racks,
kitchen items and other pieces. His wife, Roberta,
will sell her hand-sewn doll clothes. They hope to
make lots of sales and just enjoy all of the downtown
festivities.
In her first art and balloon fest, Nicole Stanke of
Elkhart will sell tutus, hair accessories and bottle-cap
jewelry. She mentioned that her tutus are popular
among little girls and the young at heart. Because
this is her first time, Ms. Stanke is looking to build a
bigger customer base and have lots of fun.
Kay Constant from Lake Fork always looks
forward to the art and balloon festival. Her booth
will offer floral arrangements; some wood items
and several collections, like toothpick holders. Ms.
Constant doesn’t do the market for the money; she
donates most of her profits back to the Oasis. She
comes to the market to have family time and to watch
the gorgeous balloons.
This year’s art and balloon fest promises to have
fun for all ages. The Oasis market at Scully Park
will give everyone a chance to purchase a memento
from local vendors. Anticipation for a good weekend
by the market vendors keeps the excitement high
for the community. Even for first-time vendors, the
market is all about meeting and greeting the citizens
of Lincoln, Logan County and visitors. For those who
are returning, the market gives them a great place
to enjoy good food, great music and of course, the
vision of balloons flying over Lincoln.
