Ruth Singley

Ruth Evelyn Singley, 83, of Mason City died at 11:58 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, in rural Tazewell County.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at Christ Lutheran Church of Mason City, with the Rev. Robert Martinek officiating.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.

She was a homemaker for many years, then worked at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital for 14 years, two years in housekeeping and 12 years as a nurse’s aide. She also provided home health care for the elderly for several years.

She was born Oct. 4, 1917, in Mason City to John "Jack" Henry and Viola Mae Curtis Rabbe. She married Delbert Clarence Singley on Feb. 21, 1937, in Fort Madison, Iowa. He died Aug. 7, 1987.

Surviving Mrs. Singley are two sons, Carlos Singley of Lincoln and Robert Singley of Mason City; five daughters, Delberta Hapke of Pekin, Janet (and Terry) Henricks of Pekin, Donna (and Deck) Sanbloom of Brookston, Ind., Marva Kay (and Marcello) Fonseco of San Francisco, Calif., and Terri Ruth (and Tim) Knoll of Livermore, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mildred M. Covert and Marian F. Lindsey, both of Peoria; and a special friend, Harmon Hildebrand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church of Mason City.


Carol Theobald

Carol L. Theobald, 67, of Lincoln died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tim Searby officiating.

Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Williamsville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Theobald was business manager at Lincolnland and Sharwood Nursing Home in Lincoln for 15 years.

She was born March 20, 1934, in Piatt County to Kenneth and Alice Marvel Lester. She married Kenneth L. Theobald on June 13, 1954, in Lincoln. He died June 24, 1997.

Surviving Mrs. Theobald are her mother, of Lincoln; two sons, Rodney Theobald of Maroa and Kevin (and Debra) Theobald of Lincoln; one granddaughter, Michelle "Mikki" Theobald of Middletown; and one brother, Charles (and Phyllis) Lester of Columbia.

She was also preceded in death by her father and an infant daughter, Rhonda Rae.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and the Yadnus Class of the church.

JoAnn Hofmann

JoAnn Louise Hofmann, 52, of Mason City died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Hurley Funeral Home, 603 E. Chestnut in Mason City, with the Rev. Marvin Lorenz officiating.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Decatur.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the funeral home.

She was a house cleaner.

She was born April 18, 1949, in Pekin to Karl and Louis M. Lieber Studt Hofmann.

Surviving are her mother, of San Jose; two brothers, Ronald (and Phyllis) Hofmann of San Jose and Donald Hofmann of San Jose; one sister, Janet (and Donald) E. Cookson of Forest City; one nephew; three nieces; and Arlo Cookson, her companion, with whom she shared her home.

She was preceded in death by her father and two sisters.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, San Jose.

Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.


M. Lucille Kelly

M. Lucille Kelly, 80, of Normal, formerly of Atlanta, died at 6:24 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, at the Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta. The Rev. David Venter will officiate.

Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Mrs. Kelly was employed in Lincoln as a secretary at the former Stetson China Company and later at the Credit Bureau of Logan County.

She was born June 11, 1921, at Bridgeport, Ind., to Charles L. and Margaret Bethman Lamb.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Mountjoy of Bloomington and Susan (and Dave) Chinowth of Atlanta; five grandchildren; two sisters, Gerry Freehill of Normal and Mary Bridges of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

She was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist Church and the Atlanta VFW.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Atlanta Public Library or the Atlanta Rescue Squad.


Doris Veach

Doris C. Veach, 81, of Normal, formerly of Atlanta, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Normal.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Minier Assembly of God Church, Minier. The Rev. Robert M. Eby will officiate.

Entombment will be in Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Minier Assembly of God Church.

Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Aug. 23, 1919, at Stanford to Henry and Mary Ellen Jackson Herman. She married Edward Benton Veach on Aug. 30, 1940, at Burlington, Iowa. He died March 4, 1991.

Surviving Mrs. Veach are three sons, E. Dwayne Veach (and Cindy) of Fresno, Calif., Robert H. Veach (and Terry) of Atlanta and Jerry L. Veach (and Karen) of Seymour, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bill Herman of Minonk and Delbert Herman of Chillicothe.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

She was a member of the Minier Assembly of God Church.

Memorials may be made to her church or to the Atlanta Rescue Squad.
