Phyllis
J. "Max" Maxheimer, 52, of Lincoln died at 10:11 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at her home.
Memorial
services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Mark Peters officiating.
There
is no visitation.
Miss
Maxheimer farmed with her father in rural Chestnut. She also
decorated cakes. She was formerly a florist at Doris’s Floral in
Lincoln.
She
was born June 18, 1949, in Lincoln to Alfred W. and Maxine Horn
Maxheimer.
Surviving
are her parents, of Lincoln; one brother, Dale (and wife Betty)
Maxheimer Sr. of Chestnut; three sisters, Linda S. Ryan of Elkhart,
Shirley A. Brittin of Tallula and Teresa A. (and Craig) Strampp of
Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents and
two nieces.
She
was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Hazel
P. Leesman, 97, of Lincoln, formerly of Atlanta, died at 12:50 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in
Lincoln.
Her
funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at the Eminence
Christian Church, rural Atlanta. Andy Glass will officiate.
Burial
will be in Mountjoy Cemetery, rural Atlanta.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the church.
Quiram
Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Leesman and her
husband farmed all their lives in Eminence Township.
She was born Dec. 8,
1903, at Armington to Charles and Olive Leach Dickson. She married
Merle C. Leesman on April 2, 1930, in Bloomington. He died Sept. 24,
1988.
Surviving are several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by two brothers and one sister.
She was a member of
the Eminence Christian Church and the Eminence Ladies' Aid.
She was an avid
gardener and a "second grandmother" to many of the area
children she taught at Sunday School at her church.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Christian Village in Lincoln or to
Eminence Christian Church.

Steven
D. Petersen, 37, of Atlanta was pronounced dead at 9:39 a.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at the Atlanta Mini Storage facility in
Atlanta.
Memorial
services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Quiram Funeral
Home, Atlanta. The Rev. Richard Reinwald will officiate.
Petersen
will be cremated.
There
will be no visitation.
Petersen
was employed as a purchasing agent for Bonanza Sirloin Pit, Lincoln.
He
was born Nov. 28, 1963, in Saginaw, Mich., to Harley and Gloria Sage
Petersen.
Surviving
are his parents, of Atlanta; one daughter, Patricia Nichole Petersen
of Atlanta; one son, Zachary Tyler Petersen of Benson; one brother,
Todd (and wife Patty) Petersen of Manhattan, Kan.; his maternal
grandparents, Richard and Sylvia Rowe of Hancock, Mich.; and several
aunts and uncles.
He
was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church.
He
played for the Bonanza softball team and was an avid golfer, guitar
player, runner and artist.
Memorial

Hazel
Marie Oltmanns, 95, of Lincoln died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1,
2001, at Mason City Area Nursing Home, Mason City.
Her
funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at
Hartsburg United Methodist Church in Hartsburg, with the Rev.
Douglas Rettig officiating.
Burial
will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home
in Lincoln.
Mrs.
Oltmanns was a homemaker and farm wife.
She
was born May 18, 1906, in rural Lincoln to Jacob and Clara Steinhour
Oyer. She married George Oltmanns in 1926 in Elkhart. He died March
12, 1979.
Surviving
are one daughter, Evelyn Belcher of Lincoln; three grandchildren,
Joseph Daniel Belcher (and wife Barbara) of San Antonio, Texas,
Sheryl Pedersen (and husband Leif) of Slidell, La., and Clark Lyle
Oltmanns (and wife Dana) of Lincoln; four great-grandchildren,
Jasmine and Justin Belcher of San Antonio, Texas, Martin Oltmanns
and Dave Pedersen; a sister-in-law, Reta Oyer of Lincoln; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She
was also preceded in death by one son, George "Bud"
Oltmanns Jr.; three sisters; one brother; and two grandchildren. She
was the last of her immediate family.
She
was a member of the Hartsburg United Methodist Church, where she
taught Sunday School for many years. She sang with the church choir
and at weddings, showers, funerals and other special events at the
church. She served as president of the former Women’s Society of
Christian Service and held other offices in that organization. She
was also secretary and served on the board of the former
Langleyville Settlement House, a project of WSCS. She served on the
Methodist Women’s Council of the Peoria District.
She
was a member of the Lincoln Musical Arts Society and served on the
state board. She studied singing with Mrs. Max Miranda.
She
was a member of the Lincoln Woman’s Club for many years and was a
past president of the former Chester Woman’s Club. She was also a
member of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a
charter member of the Logan County Homemakers Extension Bureau.
She
attended the Elkhart schools and Normal State Teachers College.
Before her marriage, she taught two years at a school near Elkhart.

J. Buelter, 66, of Lincoln died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4,
2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Her
funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln. Glenn Buelter and the Rev. Oscar Owens will
officiate.
Burial
will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs.
Buelter was co-owner and operator of Lincoln Furniture and Floor
Covering in Lincoln.
She
was born July 27, 1935, in Lincoln to Hobart L. and Mary L.
Peddicord Rose. She married Glenn Buelter in Lincoln on Sept. 2,
1965. He survives.
Also
surviving are three sons, William H. (and wife Taffy) De Jarnette of
St. Joseph, Dr. Benjamin Seth Buelter of Peoria and Joseph Daniel
(and Rosanna) Buelter of Providence, R.I.; three daughters, Joy A.
LeMay of Sadieville, Ky., Linda (and Dr. Jack) Taylor of Kansas
City, Mo.; and Sharon Williams of Arlington, Texas; and eight
grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her parents.
She
was a member of First Baptist Church of Lincoln; past president of
Zonta Club, Lincoln Woman’s Club, Antique Club and Emblem Club; a
chamber of commerce ambassador; a Main Street Lincoln member; and
was a Business Woman of the Year. For many years she was "Mrs.
Santa Claus." She founded Arcade Coffee Girls. She was also a
member of the Lincoln zoning board and the National Retail Furniture
Association.

Jackson Blair, 77, of Mason City died at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3,
2001, at Mason City Area Nursing Home.
Cremation
rites will be accorded and burial of ashes will be in Mason City
Cemetery. A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Randall Paine,
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the cemetery.
There
is no visitation. Cain-Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs.
Blair was a homemaker.
She
was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Wyanet to Harry and Bertha Thompson
Jackson. She married Dean Blair on Dec. 3, 1948, at the First
Methodist Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death.
Surviving
are three brothers, Harry Jackson of Mason City, Willard Jackson of
East Peoria and Robert Jackson of Canoga Park, Calif.; one sister,
Marie Stapleton of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was baptized at Washington Evangelical Church, and her
denominational preference was Presbyterian.

J. Bates, 57, of Lincoln died at 2:53 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
A
graveside service was at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Union Cemetery, with
the Rev. William Adam officiating. There was no visitation.
Mrs.
Bates was a homemaker.
She
was born July 24, 1944, in Lincoln to Harlen and Nellie Wright Hamil.
She married Jeffry L. Bates on March 31, 1962, in Pomona, Calif. He
survives.
Also
surviving are her mother, of Lincoln; one son, Richard E. Bates of
Fort Carson, Colo.; one daughter, Tina L. Johnson of Lincoln; one
brother, Dean Hamil (address not known); and five grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her father, twin sons and a grandson.
She
was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Welch, 72, of Springfield, formerly of Williamsville, died at 7:37
a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at St. John’s Hospital Emergency Room
in Springfield.
Her
funeral was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Holland and Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Micheal Drake officiating.
Burial
was in Elkhart Cemetery.
Visitation
was Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs.
Welch was an administrative clerk for the city of Williamsville.
She
was born July 17, 1929, at Elkhart to Archie "Dick" and
Jessie Van Fossen Greer. She married John Welch in November 1961 at
Springfield. He died Dec. 7, 1975.
Surviving
are one brother, Jim Greer of Lincoln; one sister, Nellie Smith (and
husband Robert Jr.) of Springfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and
other relatives.
She
was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Alexander, and three
brothers, Kenneth, Floyd and Dick Greer Jr.
She
was a member of Elkhart Christian Church.
