Marvin Charles Ackerman

Marvin Charles Ackerman, 77, of Lincoln died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Maffett officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Ackerman was a farmer in Broadwell Township.

He was born June 2, 1924, in Logan County to William F. and Opal Bates Ackerman. He married Ruth Ramlow in Emden on March 22, 1944.

Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Marvin Eugene (and wife Carla) Ackerman of Lincoln; two daughters, Phyllis (and Tom) Cosby of Kenansville, Fla., and Wilma (and Gary) Donath of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eleanor Ramlow of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

He was a member of Logan County Farm Bureau and Logan County 4-H Foundation, was past president of Logan County Angus Association, served on the Logan County calf scramble committee and the USDA committee, and was a 4-H club leader for 25 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. 

Memorials may be made to the church or to  Hospice of Central Illinois.

Pauline Strampp

Pauline Strampp, 89, of Lincoln died at 12:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at St. Clara’s Manor in Lincoln.

She was cremated, and memorial services are planned for a later date. Holland and Barry Funeral Home of Lincoln handled local arrangements.

Miss Strampp devoted her life’s work to the Odd Fellows Children’s Home in Lincoln, where she was executive secretary. She worked there from 1938 until she retired in 1995.

She was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Mount Pulaski to George and Anna Turk Strampp.

She is survived by a nephew, Tim Strampp of Hickory Hills.

Two brothers, Ed and Bill Strampp, preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. John United Church or Christ in Lincoln.

For over 50 years she was a member of the Orphans Home Rebekah Lodge.


Eugenia Wilson

Eugenia G. Wilson, 89, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Lincoln, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Kearney Mesa Convalescent Home in San Diego.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Thomas Taylor will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary ’s Cemetery, Lincoln.

Kerrigan Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker.

She was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Sainte Marie to Ephraim and Monica Rohr Ochs. She married Robert T. Wilson on Feb. 8, 1930, in Springfield. He died Dec. 11, 1975.

Surviving are one son, Robert E. Wilson of Lincoln; one daughter, JoAnn Ferguson of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbert Ochs of Claremont; and three sisters, Dolores Tomazic, Evelyn Stillwagon and Marie Snow, all of Springfield.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter.

She was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

Martha Hunter

Martha Hunter, 84, of Chestnut died at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holland and Barry, with the Rev. Carol Andricks officiating.

Burial will be in Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut.

Mrs. Hunter worked at Joe’s Market in Chestnut. She also farmed with her husband in the Atlanta and Beason areas.

She was born Oct. 13, 1917, at Chestnut to Clark and Rose Baker Fletcher. She married Joses H. Hunter in Chestnut on Dec. 24, 1934. He died in July 1979.

Surviving are one daughter, Charlotte Poe of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma Bahn of Lincoln and Mae Whiteside of Mount Ayr, Iowa.

She was also preceded in death by two children, Robert Hunter and Dixie Ingram; one sister, Eleanor; and four brothers, Raymond, Merle, Casey and Roscoe Fletcher.

She was a member of the Chestnut Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Club at the church. She had formerly been a member of the Home Bureau.

Memorials may be made to Chestnut Methodist Church or to Alzheimer’s research.


Mary Kuny

Mary Safford Kuny, 102, of Lincoln died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Local visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Another visitation will be on Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth from 1:15 p.m. until the funeral, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Stafford Weeks will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth.

Mrs. Kuny was a homemaker and taught school in Tuscola; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Nov. 1, 1899, in Oquawka to Henry B. and Anna Watson Safford. She married C. Sheller Peacock in 1927 in Monmouth. He died in 1943. She married Earl Bruington in 1947 and he died in 1948. She married Donald K. Kissinger in 1950. He died in 1961. In 1964 she married O.F. Kuny. He died in 1984.

Surviving are two sons, H. Safford (and wife Betty) Peacock of Lincoln and Christopher Sheller (and wife Betsy) Peacock of St. Helena, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepchildren, Edwin F. Kuny, Carolyn Kuny Little and Cissie Kuny O’Brien.

She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Decatur.

Memorials may be made to her church or to Millikin University in Decatur.
