Donna Butler

Donna F. Butler, 76, of Mason City died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Pekin Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mason City Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Hurley Funeral Home, Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

She was a caretaker.

She was born Nov. 13, 1925, in Mason City to Ray and Edna McCoy Butler.

Surviving are one brother, Loyd Butler of Springfield, and three sisters, Maxine Gore of Urbandale, Iowa; Norma Jean Poggemiller of West Burlington, Iowa, and Joann Harris of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by one sister, a niece and two nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.


John Bauer

John C. Bauer, 101, formerly of Lincoln and Riverton, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. He had been a resident of Golden Manor Nursing Home of Nokomis.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Pastor Roger David officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Bauer farmed a Scully lease near Burtonview. He retired in 1968.

He was a former supervisor of West Lincoln Township.

He was born Sept. 28, 1900, at New Holland to John and Wilhemina Roether Bauer. He married Helena Aeilts in Lincoln in 1919, and she died in 1922. He then married Eileen Murray in Lincoln in 1923. She died in 1970. He married Alberta Miller in Riverton in 1972. She died May 11, 1995.

Survivors are one son, Earl F. Bauer of Nokomis; one daughter, Julia Starner of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Eleanor, one grandchild and four brothers.

He was formerly a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.


‘Pete’ Petersen Jr.

Lester Kenneth "Pete" Petersen Jr., 70, of Lincoln died at 8:12 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Masonic Temple, with Masonic rites at 8 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. Dan Wissmann officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Zion Cemetery.

Petersen retired from CILCO in 1994 after 25 years of service. He was supervisor of line crews.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born May 7, 1932, in Bement to Lester Kenneth and LaNora Tabitha Karr Petersen Sr. He married Fran Sloan on June 24, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Survivors are his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Kenneth Leo (and Theresa) Petersen of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Tina (and Harold) Hinds of Petersburg; two grandsons, Cody Lee Petersen of Lincoln and Devan Hindt of Petersburg; and two brothers, Gayle (and Vi) Petersen of Creal Springs and Warren (and Wanda) Petersen of Punta Gorda, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one daughter.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

He was a life member of Lincoln Lodge 210 A.F. & A.M., where he was past master and had been secretary for the last 10 years. He received the 33rd degree in Boston, Mass., in 1996.

He was also a member of Constantine Commandery 51, Lincoln Chapter Royal Arch Masons 147, Lincoln Council 83, Valley of Springfield Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, past potentate of Ansar Shrine in Springfield, past worthy patron of Lincoln Chapter 351, Order of Eastern Star, Abraham Shrine 100, past president of Logan County Shrine Club, New Salem Shrine Club, Decatur Shrine Club and past commander of Ansar Legion of Honor.

He was a member of the advisory board for Lincoln Assembly Rainbow for Girls and a recipient of Grand Cross of Color from the International Order of Rainbow for Girls

He was also a recipient of Legion of Honor from the International Order of Demolay, St. Edwards Red Cross of Constantine and Knights of the York Cross of Honor.

He was past president of Wayne W. Gatewood Chapter 536 National Sojourners and a member of Heros 76, Kachina Billikin Klub, Elks Lodge 914, American Legion Post 263 and Taylorville Moose Lodge 1516.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Lincoln Masonic Foundation.

George Peterson

George M. Peterson, 94, of Lincoln died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with the Rev. Mark Peters officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.

Peterson was a retired Navy master chief petty officer, carpenter, janitor and Sunday School teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years.

He was born June 27, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to John and Louise Peterson. He married Beulah Snyder on May 14, 1952, in Great Morrow, N.C. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2002.

Survivors are two daughters, Theresa Sullivan of Lincoln and Nadine (and "Red") Carr of Maryland; three sons, Ronnie (and Debbie) Peterson of Florida, Charles (and Ann) Peterson of Maryland and Arthur (and Connie) Peterson of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, two brothers and one granddaughter.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

He was a member of VFW, American Legion, Free Masons and Shriners.

Memorials may be made to help disabled veterans.

‘Jack’ Detjen

John "Jack" F. Detjen, 69, of Lincoln died at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2002, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd, with Pastor Roger David officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Detjen was purchasing manager for Cutler-Hammer Eaton Corporation for 37 years. He retired in 1996.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was born July 2, 1933, in Chicago to the Rev. John and Hildegard Lange Detjen. He married Mary Reiners on Feb. 10, 1952, in Emden.

Survivors are his wife, of Lincoln; three daughters, Diane Detjen of Lincoln, Denise (and Vic) Martinek of Lincoln and Deborah (and Herman) Galligos of Lincoln; five grandsons, Bryan Galligos, Jeremy Galligos White, John Martinek, Andrew Galligos and Thomas Martinek; one brother, Detlef (and Georgia) Detjen of Orland Hills; and one sister, Dolores (and Gene) Chapman of Emden.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lovey Meeker.

He was a founder of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lincoln, pastoral assistant and president of the congregation.

He also served on the Logan Mason Rehabilitation board, Oasis board of directors and was on the Salvation Army board for 20 years.

He was past president of Purchasing Managers Association of Illinois, a member of Lincoln Elks 914, Kentucky colonel and pastor commander of American Legion Post 506.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Lincoln.

Beulah Peterson

Beulah Peterson, 86, of Lincoln died at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at her home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader.

Mrs. Peterson will be cremated.

She was a homemaker.

She was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Petersburg. She married George M. Peterson on May 14, 1952, in Great Morrow, N.C. He followed her in death on July 23, 2002.

Survivors are two daughters, Theresa Sullivan of Lincoln and Nadine (and "Red") Carr of Maryland; three sons, Ronnie (and Debbie) Peterson of Florida, Charles (and Ann) Peterson of Maryland and Arthur (and Connie) Peterson of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James I. Snyder and Bessie Kay Snyder Day, five brothers and one sister.

She was of the Lutheran faith and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
