Eva Cook

Eva Ann Cook, 95, of Broadwell died at 1:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral, also at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Jon Rose will officiate.

Burial will be in McLean Cemetery.

Mrs. Cook worked in housekeeping at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. Before that she took care of many children in her home.

She was born March 29, 1906, in Sommerset, Ky., to George Willis and Elvira McClenon Rainwater. She married Harrison Cook on Feb. 17, 1920. He died Nov. 11, 1968.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Cook of California and Harrison William "Bill" Cook of Hobbs, N.M.; three daughters, Marlene (and Kenneth) Ely of Lincoln, Ruthann (and Charles) Ridgeway Jr. of Broadwell and Ollie Towner of Houston, Texas; a son-in-law, Dick Martinie of Springfield; 33 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, George and James; three daughters, Beatrice, Rebecca and Marian; four infant children; three sisters; and six brothers. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Broadwell Christian Church and the Ladies Fellowship of the church. She volunteered at the Christian Village.

Mrs. Cook loved her family and all those she took care of, including children from these families: Reads, Lauers, Stanfield, Oltmanns, Benners, Gearys, Reeves, Cosby, Yards, Kurtz, Abels and Newman. She had many stories to tell about these children as they were growing up. She touched many hearts. 

She also loved quilting, baking pies, reading her Bible, and she especially loved her flowers.

Memorials may be made to Broadwell Christian Church or to the donor’s choice.

Ann Young

Ann J. Young, 95, of Lincoln died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at St. Clara’s Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Young was cremated. There will be no visitation.

A memorial Mass will be at Holy Family Church in Lincoln at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. The Rev. Thomas Taylor will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lincoln.

Kerrigan Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young worked as a presser at the former Gossett Cleaners for 33 years and retired in 1979.

She was born July 22, 1906, in Burton View to Sylvester and Mary Holmes Richards. She marred Alfred Young on Oct. 30, 1930, in Lincoln. He died Aug. 21, 1968.

Surviving are one son, Robert Young of Allison Park, Pa.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a member of Holy Family Church in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to her church.

D. Joyce Kattner

D. Joyce Kattner, 76, of Lincoln died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Maple Ridge Health Care Centre.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lincoln Christian Church. Tom Gerdts will officiate.

Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Kattner was the retired owner of Logan Lanes in Lincoln.

She was born April 6, 1925, in Whiting, Iowa, to Fred and Rowena Paige Racobs. She married Eugene C. Kattner on Feb. 16, 1947, in Lincoln. He died in 1979.

Surviving are one daughter, Diana (and Jim) Haseley of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Heather (and Eric) Ewald of Lincoln and Jason Haseley of Lincoln; one great-granddaughter, Madison Ewald of Lincoln; and two sisters, Doris (and Herb) Bree of Lincoln and Donna (and Robert) Davis of Janesville, Wis.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Loren "Bud" Racobs.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and Lincoln Emblem Club.

Memorials may be made to her church or to the American Heart Association.

Frances Goolsby

Frances C. Goolsby, 84, of Gifford, formerly of Lincoln, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln. Tom Gerdts will preside. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Mrs. Goolsby was a homemaker.

She was born March 15, 1917, in Bristol, Tenn. She married Robert Franklyn Johnson, who died in 1952. She later married Newman Goolsby. He died in December 1978.

She is survived by one daughter, Margie Rice of St. Joseph; one son, Carl Johnson of Tampa, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

One son and one daughter preceded her in death.

She was of the Pentecostal faith.
