Sarah Smallwood

Sarah Margaret Smallwood, 86, of Emden died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Hopedale Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Emden.

Miss Smallwood was a receptionist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

She was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Emden to Bert C. and Zora A. Gemberling Smallwood.

Surviving are one sister, Edith Mitchell of Emden, and two nephews, Lloyd Mitchell of Emden and Kenneth Mitchell of Middletown, Calif.

She was a member of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.

Martin Hoehn

Martin C. Hoehn, 97, of Mason City died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Pastor Thomas E. Moyer will officiate.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

There is no visitation.

Hoehn farmed around Salt Creek for many years. After retiring he worked as a carpenter and for local grain elevators.

He was born Oct. 13, 1904, in Burton View to Friedrich and Magdalena Lauterbach Hoehn. He married Helena Corbin on Aug. 15, 1966, in Mason City. She died Oct. 13, 1979.

Surviving are one sister, Marie Ziech of Joliet, two nieces, one great-nephew, two great-nieces, two great-great-nephews and four great-great-nieces.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

While farming he raised livestock and worked very hard on agricultural conservation. He also loved to hunt and raise roses.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Mason City.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
