Francis Bateman

Francis Luke Bateman, 91, of Lincoln died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Bill Shanle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Bateman was a farmer in Logan County and retired from the Logan County Farm Service.

He was born Jan. 9, 1911, at Bible Grove to Pearl and Eva Vickery Bateman. He married Evelyn Donnan in Lincoln on June 8, 1933.

Bateman is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; two sons, Leland Bateman of Springfield and Garland Bateman of Whiteville, N.C.; one daughter, Phyllis Blaum of Mount Pulaski; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Lucille (and Arnold) Heins, Thelma Gilbert and Juanita Farmer, all of Florida.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of Mount Pulaski United Methodist Church and a past member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Lincoln and the Lincoln Civil Air Patrol.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Clara’s Manor.

June Crook

June Crook, 44, of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Lincoln, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her home.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Gilmer’s Funeral Service, Mobile, Ala. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery, Saraland, Ala.

Mrs. Crook was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Willie A. Crook III; three children, Chris (and Sheanna) Moore, Heather (and Jim) Decater and Mark Butell, all of Lincoln; two stepchildren, Willie A. (and Wyena) Crook Jr. of Mobile, Ala., and Dexter Crook, in the U.S. Army.; her father, Francis (and wife Helen) Merreighn of Lincoln; one sister and six brothers, Ronnie Merreighn, Greg Merreighn, Jack Merreighn, Daniel Merreighn, Frances Merreighn Jr. and Charles Jackson, all of Lincoln; 13 nieces; and 13 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Jackson.

Mrs. Crook was a great wife to her devoted husband of 13 years.

 

 

 

Bernice Klokkenga

Bernice Klokkenga, 86, of Delavan, formerly of Hartsburg and Emden, died at 6:06 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Morton Terrace in Morton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Davis Mortuary in Delavan.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden, with the Rev. Frank Pieper officiating.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, rural Hartsburg.

Mrs. Klokkenga was a beautician in Emden and worked at Stetson China Factory in Lincoln. She then worked at Lincoln State School until retiring in the early 1980s.

She was born March 13, 1916, in San Jose to Christ and Jennie Reinholtz Mammen. She married William H. Klokkenga on Dec. 3, 1944, in Emden, and he died March 27, 1968.

Surviving are one son, Gordon (and Kathy) Klokkenga of Delavan; one daughter, Christy (and Steve) Watts of Delavan; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Emden.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
