Ila Westen

Ila Miriam Westen, 90, died at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln.

Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beason United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Hudson officiating. Visitation was one hour before the service.

Burial is in Harmony Cemetery, Beason.

She was a homemaker, and for seven years she operated the last grocery store in Beason.

She was born July 15, 1912, in Beason to William David and Pearl Green Cooper. She married Edward W. Westen on June 28, 1936, in Beason. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, William Darwin Westen of Camdenton, Mo.; two daughters, Maurine Westen Orr of Springfield and Marlene Westen Wilson of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Lisa Orr of Springfield, Jodi Ritterbush of Lincoln, Ann Wilson of Charlottesville, Va., and Brad Wilson of Indianapolis, Ind.; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Cooper of Mount Pulaski; and one sister, Aileen Westen of Lincoln.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Beason, the United Methodist Women’s Society, Chester Woman’s Club, Logan County Homemakers Extension and a 50-year member of Lincoln Chapter 351 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beason United Methodist Church.

 

Donald Vaughan

Donald "Don" Edward Vaughan, 75, of Latham died at 1:09 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Gilbert Fletcher officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service time.

Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, Latham.

Mr. Vaughan retired from Northwest Airlines in 1989.

He served with the Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre and participated in the occupation of China.

He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Decatur to Glenn and Leah "Clovia" Martin Vaughan. He married Dorothy Jean Litts in Warrensburg on June 11, 1950. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald E. (and Denise) Vaughan II of Durham, Calif., and Glenn (and Tina) Vaughan of League City, Texas; one daughter, Kathy (and Richard) Wibbeler of Vacaville, Calif.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Otis Dean (and Yvonne) Vaughan of Hollister, Mo., and Carl E. (and Anna) Vaughn of Mount Auburn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Renee Vaughan, and one brother, Glenn Richard Vaughan.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Latham and American Legion Post 101 in Brentwood, Mo.

Memorials may be made to Latham Rescue Squad or Latham Methodist Church.
