Lona Powell
Lona Powell, 94, of Atlanta died
Monday, March 17, 2003, at 3 a.m. at the Christian Village Nursing
Home in Lincoln.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at Quiram Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday at the Eminence Christian Church, rural Atlanta. The Rev.
Andy Glass will officiate.
Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery,
rural Atlanta.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker, and she
worked as a volunteer at the Christian Village Nursing Home for
several years.
She was born Aug. 13, 1908, to John and
Lucy Carpenter Turner. She married Ed Powell on April 18, 1925, in
Lincoln. He died Jan. 14, 1981.
Survivors are one son, Wayne (and
Carole) Powell of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Earline
Powell of Atlanta; four grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one
son, one grandson, one granddaughter, four brothers and three
sisters.
She was a member of Eminence Christian
Church and the Eminence Ladies Aid.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the church.
Pamela Sprague
Pamela Jean Sprague,
52, a Lincoln native, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at her home in
Salem.
Visitation will be
from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Christian Church in
Salem. A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at
the church, with Robert E. Twist officiating.
Burial will be in
Keys Cemetery, Beason.
Rankin Funeral Home
in Salem is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sprague was the
office manager for All Pets Animal Hospital in Salem.
She was born Jan. 22,
1951, in Lincoln to Nelson H. and Pearl Stoll Lock. She married Dr.
A.J. Sprague on Dec. 26, 1971, in Beason.
Survivors are her
husband, who is a veterinarian in Salem; her mother, of Beason; one
son, Lt. j.g. Jesse Sprague (and wife Claire) of the U.S. Navy; two
daughters, Emily Sprague of Cordova, Tenn., and Amy Sprague of
Normal; and three brothers, Nelson (and Peg) Lock of Decatur, David
(and Genia) Lock of Beason and Ron (and Carolyn) Lock of Owaneco.
She was preceded in
death by her father.
She graduated from
Illinois State University in 1974 with a bachelor’s degree in
education.
Memorials may be made to the Crisis
Pregnancy Center in Salem and will be accepted by the Rankin Funeral
Home.
Margaret 'Peg' Worth
Margaret "Peg" Worth
died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 3:30 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center
in Springfield.
A memorial service
will be at 1 p.m. March 29 at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in
Lincoln, with the Rev. Henry Cox officiating. Visitation will be an
hour before the service.
Burial of cremains
will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.
Mrs. Worth was
employed by the Illinois secretary of state for 34 years before she
retired in 1973. She lived in Springfield for many years before her
marriage, when she moved to New Holland.
She was born May 27,
1913, in Edinburg to Richard and Marie Driskell Lowe. She married
Glen Worth on Oct. 6, 1955, in Springfield.
Surviving are one
stepson, Thomas (and Jan) Worth of Lake in the Hills; a
stepgranddaughter, Lori (and Butch) Brown of Clarksville, Tenn.; two
step-great-grandsons; one sister, Nellie Rescho of Springfield; two
nieces, Linda (and Harold) Whitworth of Nashville and Patti Fricke
of Springfield; and several nephews.
She was preceded in
death by a stepson, Brem Worth, and a sister, Darliene Youngberg.
She was a member of
the First United Methodist Church of Middletown and the women’s
organization of the church. She was also a member of the New Holland
Women’s Club, The Oasis senior citizens of Lincoln, the Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the
hospital for many years,
She was a graduate of
Springfield High School and Illinois Business College.
Memorials may be made to First United
Methodist Church of Middletown.
Jimmy Shull
Jimmy Lee Shull, 39, of St. Louis, Mo.,
died Friday, March 14, 2003, at 5:03 p.m. at Barnes Jewish Hospital
in St. Louis.
There is no visitation.
A memorial service will be Sunday,
March 23, at 2 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Maffett officiating.
Mr. Shull was a Lincoln native and
served in the National Guard.
He was born Dec. 3, 1963, to James and
Sharon Haberland Shull.
Surviving are his father, in Minnesota;
his mother and his stepfather, Butch Gordon, of Lincoln; one
brother, Ricky Shull of Lincoln; one sister, Lori Shull Cook of
Atlanta; and a great-grandmother, Tillie Davison of Middletown.
He was preceded in death by
grandparents Harold and Ruby Haberland and Clarence and Ruth Shull.

Vera Mittelstadt
Vera Marie
Mittelstadt, 93, of Mount Pulaski, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, died
Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at 2:42 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be
at noon Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski, with Pastor Robert Kruger officiating. Visitation will be
from 11 a.m. to noon.
Burial will be in
Mount Pulaski Cemetery.
Mrs. Mittelstadt was
a homemaker. She also worked in retail sales for the Pederson,
Harned, VonMaurer department store in Davenport, Iowa.
She was born June 27,
1909, in Lincoln to George and Rose Gehri Maurer. She married Joseph
J. Mittlestadt in Pontiac on March 24, 1931. He died Feb. 21, 2000.
Surviving are one
son, Robert David Mittelstadt of Florham Park, N.J.; one grandson,
Joseph H. Mittelstadt of Basking Ridge, N.J.; one brother, George
(and wife Ruth) Maurer of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded
in death by one daughter, one granddaughter, two sisters and one
brother.
She was a founding
member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to her church in Iowa, St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Normal or to
the activity fund at Vonderlieth Living Center in Mount Pulaski.

Carolyn Bevard
Carolyn D. Bevard, 70, of Lincoln died
Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 8:40 a.m. at her home.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with
Tom Gerdts officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the
service time.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery,
Lincoln.
Mrs. Bevard had worked as a manager at
Ben Franklin, as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in
Lincoln, as a bookkeeper for Schmidt Implement and as a receptionist
at H&R Block.
She was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Ottumwa,
Iowa, to Harold and Rachel Suiter Merrill. She married Thomas E.
Bevard in Lincoln on July 14, 1951. He survives.
Other survivors are her father, of
Lincoln; three daughters, Jan (and Jerry) Pickett of Mount Pulaski,
Jill (and Melvin) Buchholz of Lincoln and Joy (and Mark) Coyne of
Perth, Canada; eight grandchildren, Natalie (and Jim) Allen, Betsy
Clark, Clint Clark, Rachel Buchholz, Samuel Coyne, Thomas Coyne,
Maggie Coyne and Aaron Pickett; nine great-grandchildren; one
brother, Charles "Chuck" (and Karen) Merrill of Springfield; and two
sisters, Barbara (and Tom) Hertzfeldt of Mackinaw and Joyce (and
Ken) Letterle of Lafayette, La.
She was preceded in death by her
mother.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian
Church, a Girl Scout leader and held several offices in the ESA
sorority.
Memorials
may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lincoln Christian
Church.

Joyce Marshall
Joyce Marshall, 77, of Latham
died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 2:15 p.m. at her home.
Visitation was Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount
Pulaski.
Her funeral was
Wednesday morning at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with the Rev. Marvin Mungle
officiating.
Burial is in Illini
Township Cemetery, Warrensburg.
Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker.
She was born June 6, 1925, at
Goodlett, Texas, to Henry and Wilma Arnett Scott. She married Wilbur
"Pinky" Marshall Jr. in Goodlett, Texas, on Oct. 12, 1951.
Surviving are her husband, of
Latham; one daughter, Wilma (and Richard) Stanley of Latham; a
daughter-in-law, Pam (and Leo) Schmidt of Latham; seven
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Nina Ham
of Hickman, Calif., Frances Poole of Goodlett, Texas, and Beulah
Malone of Holly, Colo.
She was preceded in death by
one son, Larry, who died in 1989, and two grandchildren.
She was a member of Latham
Baptist Church.
