Illinois kicks off holiday season at the James R. Thompson Center     Send a link to a friend

[NOV. 25, 2003]  CHICAGO -- Gov. Blagojevich invites all to see the Holiday Tree Festival trees. The festival kicks off with a lighting ceremony at noon today (Tuesday) at the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph St. Cheryl Burton of ABC 7 News Chicago will act as master of ceremonies at this year's event.

The season starts with festivities including performances by the DePaul trumpet ensemble, El Hogar Del Nino Ballet Folkroico, Curie Metropolitan High School for the Performing Arts choir, the McNulty Irish dancers and the Trinity United Church of Christ sanctuary choir.

This year also marks the beginning of the governor's Holiday Tree Festival.

Eight local cultural organizations donated their time and resources to design and decorate holiday trees, which will be on display on Tuesday in the concourse level of the building. The trees will remain on display on various floors in the building throughout the remainder of the holiday season. The program reflects the wonderful cultural diversity found in Illinois.
