Sheep Pasture Walk Set      Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 11, 2003]  URBANA-A sheep pasture walk and discussion will be held Nov. 8 at the Elton Mau farm in Arrowsmith, sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. The event begins at 10 a.m.

According to Richard Cobb, U of I Extension sheep specialist, the Mau family run 48 mature Rambouillet and Dorset ewes and their lambs on 7.5 acres of intensively managed pasture.

 



"Mau will discuss his plans for late fall and winter grazings and how he is able to maintain the ewe flock on grass for the majority of the year," said Cobb. "In addition, he will discuss his plans for the future concerning the pasture and a direct marketing program."

The Mau farm is located on 1300 N Rd in Arrowsmith. People traveling from the Bloomington area can take Route 9 East for 13.5 miles from Eastland Mall, to Road 3000E and turn south for 1 mile to the intersection of 1300N Rd. Turn east on 1300 N Rd and the Mau farm is 1 mile on the north side of the road.
 


If you are coming from the east on I74, exit at LeRoy and go north to RT 150. Turn left or west and follow 150 for a mile until you come to a Casey's on the north side of the road. Turn north on 2600 E and drive 8 miles to 1300 N Rd. Turn right, or to the east and the Mau farm is 5.25 miles on the north. For more information, call Elton Mau at 309-727-1322 or A.
