Dorothy Melnick

Dorothy V. Melnick, 90, Lincoln died Friday (Oct. 17, 2003) at 4:43 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A private graveside service will be on Monday at New Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Father James Cravens will officiate.

There is no visitation.

Holland and Barry Funeral Home of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Melnick did volunteer work at the Pink Shutter for 26 years.

She was born June 11, 1913, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Louis H. Jr. and Evelyn Ray Baldwin Vogel. She married Michael B. Melnick on Dec. 2, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He preceded her in death.

Survivors are three sons, Michael A. Melnick of Evanston, Louis D. Melnick of Evanston and Peter G. Melnick of Lincoln.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Mackintosh and Lois Maddoloni.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Lincoln, DAR, Lincoln Woman's Club, Chester Woman's Club and had lifetime membership in the ALMH Auxiliary.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church of Lincoln.

 

Martha Smith

Martha May Smith, 84, of Lincoln died Friday (Oct. 17, 2003) at 8 p.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre.

A graveside service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hartsburg Union Cemetery with Vicar Troy Roenfanz officiating.

There was no visitation.

Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of Lincoln handled arrangements.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

She was born June 28, 1919, in Indianapolis, Ind., to William and Waneta B. Wright Williams.

Survivors are one son, Michael (and Cynthia) Smith of Decatur; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Williams of Garden Grove, Calif.; and one sister, Jane Thompson of Greenwood, Ind.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was a member of Lincoln Elks, Emblem Club and Eastern Star.

Memorials may be made to Maple Ridge Care Center in Lincoln.
