Kites and flight at Lincoln Park District       Send a link to a friend

[APRIL 21, 2005]  Saturday (April 23) is National Kite Flying Day. Kite clubs all over the country will observe this day with organized kite flying and contests. In conjunction with the Illinois Association of Park Districts, Lincoln Park District joins kite enthusiasts around the country in celebrating this day. A small part of the focus will be the Illinois Park District license plate program.

Activities will begin at the Lincoln Park District at 9 a.m.

Volunteering their talents are John and Sue Berker, both of them having private pilots' licenses and being avid kite flyers. Assisting them are Kevin and Sandra Lessen. They will also demonstrate some very large kites.

The program is limited to the first 24 students in third through fifth grade. All the young people will make their own kites to fly and take home.

This fun event will culminate with a trip to the Heritage In Flight Museum to further explore different aspects of aviation. Parents will need to provide transportation to the museum at the Logan County Airport.

The events are expected to end by 11 a.m. There are no costs for this program, and parents are encouraged to stay and participate.
