The historic tourism industry is gaining
popularity at Lincoln College. The college will welcome eight
tourism students from Brazil in its exchange program with UNIDERP
University in Campo Grande, Brazil, during the week of Aug. 8-12.

The international students
will attend a workshop called "The Heritage Tourism Workshop" that
will feature national, state and locally supported historic sites,
especially those related to the life of Abraham Lincoln. The goal of
the program is to help students gain an understanding of the
historic tourism industry when dealing with historic places.
Program facilitator Pamela Moriearty of Lincoln thinks the
exchange will offer students a unique opportunity. "Each
institution's students have access to places which they would not
otherwise be able to visit,” she said. “We are glad for the
opportunity to introduce Brazilian tourism students to the unique
attractions of Lincoln and central Illinois."

Moriearty says the group will visit the historic sites of New
Salem, Lincoln's Home and the new Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Library and Museum.
The exchange program is a reciprocal agreement between UNIDERP
University of Campo Grande, Brazil, and Lincoln College. In May,
three Lincoln College students along with their instructor, Dr.
Moriearty, toured Brazil's Pantanal region to study regional animals
and native plant life.
