Senior Day at the Illinois State Fair       Send a link to a friend

Information on upcoming Medicare changes and state's new Rx program
will be available

[AUG. 10, 2005]  SPRINGFIELD -- The Illinois Department on Aging will host Senior Day at the Illinois Building at the state fair in Springfield on Monday. The air-conditioned building is near the main gate on the state fairgrounds. Admission on Senior Day is free for people 60 years of age and older.

Officials with the Department on Aging will also be on hand to provide information to seniors and their families regarding the upcoming changes to the federal Medicare drug benefit and Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich's newest prescription drug program, Illinois Cares Rx. Seniors and their families may sign up for same-day, individual, private counseling sessions about pharmaceutical benefits with professional counselors from the Aging Department.

The Prairie Heart Institute and the Illinois Pharmacists Association will also provide free health screenings each day, including these:

  • Cholesterol

  • Blood pressure

  • Blood sugar

  • Body composition

  • Mental health

  • Osteoporosis

  • Pulmonary function

  • Height and weight

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Skin cancer

  • Stroke

  • Overactive bladder

Each and every day of the fair there will be entertainment and bingo from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
