[AUG. 22, 2005]  Lincoln College is setting the stage for the start of another school year with the orientation theme "Lynx Factor," which is welcoming new students with special activities through Tuesday under a theme inspired by "Fear Factor." The 27 sophomores returning as orientation leaders helped to decide on the theme and activities. The first day of fall 2005 classes is Wednesday.

Michelle Williams, director of orientation and director of counseling, says there will be sessions for students to help them become familiar with faculty, staff and resident directors. In addition, students will fill out paperwork, financial aid and discover where to go for help during the academic year.

"Orientation is a key time to show new Lincoln College students what we do best, which is make them feel like family," Williams said. "We make the transition from high school and home living as smooth as possible by providing an environment filled with caring faculty, staff, administration and students."

Lincoln College is requiring something new at this year's orientation. Williams says each first-year student will be taking a course titled "First Year Experience" in order to assist with all of the potential transition issues that first-year college students experience. "I am very excited about the implementation of this course," Williams said. "We have a great group of faculty and staff that are looking forward to teaching this course for the first time." This course will last the first 11 weeks of school and will allow for the orientation to have a more relaxed atmosphere.
