Wal-Mart would compete with local retailers          Send a link to a friend

Dear Editor:

To comment on what other retailers will be affected by a Super Wal-Mart, I would like to ask Mr. Willmert [letter] how much he looks at the stores within a Super Wal-Mart.

We have Picture This and Images By Coop, two very upstanding and vital businesses in Lincoln and yes, mom and pop -- well, Picture This is just pop. Anyway, Super Wal-Marts have a shop for family photography to be taken there.

We also have in this great city Nobbe Eye Care, Advanced Eye Care, Prairie Eye Center, Bard Optical and Drake Eyecare Center that bring in sales tax and revenue. Again, Super Wal-Marts have eye care centers in them.

We have two Cingular Wireless stores, three Verizon Wireless stores. Yes, Super Wal-Mart sells cellular phones too. In fact their prices are over half the price of the actual retailers.

[to top of second column in this letter]

We have Thorntons, Apollo Mart, Fifth Street Food Mart, Casey's, Kickapoo Mart and Qik-n-EZ. You guessed it -- Super Wal-Mart will have gas.

We have Medicap Pharmacy, Walgreens, Krogers and CVS. Wal-Mart has a pharmacy too.

I'm sure I am leaving out several other businesses that a Super Wal-Mart will affect, and I apologize for that.

So there is your answer. I hope I was helpful.

Josh Bruns
