Snow-covered Lincoln to welcome Santa tonight          Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 1, 2005]  Mother Nature has done her part and in most timely fashion. She's laid a beautiful foundation of white fluff that is sure to raise spirits and show off all tonight's colorful floats to their best.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will remain about the same, in the 20s and low 30s, for this evening and for several days, just maintaining the frozen white stuff. Periods of flurries are also anticipated over the next few days. Winds are predicted at 10-15 mph out of the northwest, creating below 20-degree wind chill readings.

So, whether you are going to watch the parade or are a participant, bundle up warm.

The parade, set to begin at 6:30 p.m., will follow last year's route, starting at Lincoln Community High School on Wyatt Avenue, turning toward town on Kickapoo Street, around the Logan County Courthouse, down Broadway Street, across the tracks and exiting left down Sangamon Street toward Carroll Catholic School.

Of course the parade's conclusion will be the grand entrance of the jolly man dressed in red. Santa will be hosted on a float by the Lincoln Elks Lodge 914.

Since he is in town he will be making another appearance Saturday morning at the Lincoln Park District. See details of participation in Breakfast With Santa under Community: "Park district notes; Winter activities to beat the doldrums."

The annual parade is hosted by the Lincoln/Logan County Chamber of Commerce office, 1555 Fifth St. in Lincoln, phone (217) 735-2385.
