To the editor: I was very pleased to hear that the city of Lincoln
made a final decision with bringing in a Super Wal-Mart to town.
So many people in the area were 100 percent against it in fear
that the mom and pop businesses in the area would be forced to
close due to lack of customers buying from them. Others just simply
found making remarks about what Wal-Mart pays their employees and
offers for benefits.
I ask those people questioning about Wal-Mart's wages and
benefits to go around town and ask how many employees at the "mom
and pop" businesses make much more than minimum wage, plus benefits.
I know I can't think of many. Keeping Wal-Mart from expanding would
not change what the other businesses in this area pay their
employees or offer for benefits.

To those people who continue to feel that a bigger and better
Wal-Mart has no place in this town: Do not shop there. And not just
the Lincoln Wal-Mart -- any other Wal-Mart or Sam's Club or any
other division of. Just remember, when it's 4 a.m. and you need
something quick in a pinch, Kroger will be there for you at higher
prices than Wal-Mart.
