National Women's Baseball Hall of Fame honors players          Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 12, 2005]  WASHINGTON -- Four women baseball players were recognized for induction into the National Women's Baseball Hall of Fame and three others were selected for national awards in separate ceremonies Dec. 3 and Nov. 19.

Those slated for induction in 2005 are Joann Winter, pitcher, Racine Belles, 1943-1950; and current players Laura Brenneman, shortstop, Virginia Flames and Team USA; Diane Sweeney, manager and infielder, BarnCats, Montgomery County; and Cindy Fereno, utility player, Virginia Flames.

National MVPs are Robin Gelman, pitcher, BarnCats, Montgomery County, and Rosie Weaver, pitcher, Virginia Flames. The coach of the year is Richard Bender, also with the BarnCats.

The National Women's Baseball Hall of Fame provides recognition and induction of women players in regulation baseball. Since 1998, 21 players have been formally nominated and officially honored. A complete list is available at http://eteamz.active.com/hallfame/index.cfm.
