To the editor: Thought this would be two good lessons: one in
knowing CPR and one in having a properly functioning muffler.
Our son, Jeff Smith, is a lineman for AmerenCilco. Earlier this
week -- Tuesday or Wednesday, I believe -- he was stopped at an
intersection in Lincoln and the lady in front of him got out of her
car screaming, "My baby isn't breathing."
He proceeded to pull across the intersection and go to her car.
There was a 2-year-old child and he was not breathing. Our son took
him from the car and performed CPR and revived him.

The ambulance arrived and took over. They said he had been
overcome by carbon monoxide from faulty muffler.
We're really proud of our son and also so thankful the child was
saved.
