Lincoln Community High School speech team travels to Olympia Christmas Classic          Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 19, 2005]  STANFORD -- The Lincoln Community High School speech team traveled to the Olympia Christmas Classic this weekend and finished second of 20 teams.

Varsity tournament champions for Lincoln were Lindsey Boerma in humorous interpretation and Rachel Kasa and Tony Curcuru in dramatic duet acting. Novice champions were Kelly Knecht in oratory, Chelsea Filbeck in extemporaneous, Kaylyn Engelhardt in declamation, Lincoln Moore in original comedy and Kelly Lohrenz in special occasion.

Other varsity finalists for Lincoln were Kelly Lohrenz, third in dramatic interpretation; Hannah Snyder, fifth in impromptu; Lindsey Boerma, third in special occasion; and Ruth Ohmart, second in verse.

Tournament semifinalists were Rachel Kasa, Cameron Kurtz, Amy Schumacher, Tony Curcuru, Annie Sheley, Janel Filbeck, Ruth Ohmart, Rebecca Kasa and Jill Patrick.

Novice finalists were Todd Schumacher, second in dramatic interpretation; Chelsea Filbeck, fifth in impromptu; Hailey Cooper, fifth in humorous interpretation; Kaylyn Engelhardt, second in prose; and Stephanie Holford, fourth, and Hailey Cooper, sixth, in original comedy.

"Not a bad way to end the first half of the season," said Ed Jodlowski, a coach for the LCHS team. "I think these kids have really surprised us this year. Week in and week out they are at the top of the tournaments. We look forward to some well-deserved rest before we compete Jan. 7 at Normal Community."
