Logan County Animal Control wardens assist local woman in need of medical care       Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 23, 2005]  A local deaf woman who lives alone in Lincoln with many beloved pets was faced with a difficult choice between her health and her pets. She had wounds on her leg that despite the best outpatient wound care just weren't getting any better.

The woman's doctor had wanted to admit her to ALMH the week before last so that she could get the proper, round-the-clock care for her wounds. In the following week the wounds worsened, and it became absolutely critical that she be admitted at ALMH.

This lady had no one who could care for her pets in her absence, and because her funds are limited she could not afford to pay to board the animals.
Her physical therapist, Mary Reynolds, is also a pet-lover and recognized the dilemma that this lady was facing. Reynolds immediately got on the phone to Logan County Animal Control to seek help.

The woman agreed to be hospitalized after Logan County Animal Control warden Julie Parker and assistant warden Maurice Tierney offered to pick up her pets and care for them without charge while she was hospitalized.

The lady is now back home. Parker said it was fortunate that they had a low enough census in the facility to do it. It was one of the happier parts of her job when they were able to take the pets back to her, she said.
