MOUNT PULASKI -- Leonard J. "Curly" Hatfield, 75, of Warrensburg, formerly of Mount Pulaski, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at 2:45 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle and John Robertson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Hatfield served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1968.

He was born July 20, 1929, in Mount Pulaski to Guy and Gladys May Leonard Hatfield. He married Alta Jane Mardirosian in Mount Pulaski on Feb. 21, 1952.

He is survived by his wife, of Mount Pulaski; one son, Leonard Hatfield Jr. of Panama City, Fla.; one daughter, Penny Jane (and Gary) Pharis of Mount Pulaski; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard G. Hatfield; and one sister, Verna Mae Moore.

He was a member of the Mount Pulaski Christian Church.

He received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and the Meritorious Unit Emblem.

LINCOLN -- W. Edward "Eddie" Mangold, 73, of Lincoln died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at 5:48 a.m. at his home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Holland and Barry Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holland and Barry, with Pastor Blair Kasfeldt officiating.

Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Mr. Mangold retired from Lincoln College after 15 years of employment there.

He was born Dec. 13, 1931, at New Holland to Wilbur and Rosa Dye Mangold. He married Darlene Tholen on Feb. 16, 1958, at Hartsburg.

He is survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one daughter, Cynthia S. Mangold of Lincoln; one sister, Beverly Myers of Beardstown; and two brothers, James Mangold of Peoria and Wayne Mangold of Mesa, Ariz.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

He graduated from New Holland High School in 1950.

ATLANTA -- Myrtle Wezeman, 89, of Atlanta, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at 12:08 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

There will be no visitation or services. Her body was cremated.

Quiram Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Wezeman served as a foster grandmother at Lincoln Developmental Center in Lincoln for 27 years, beginning in 1977.

She was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Chicago to Fred and Della Schweitzerhof Hacker. She married Charles Schumacher in 1936. She later married Clarence J. "Curly" Wezeman, on July 7, 1947, at Atlanta. He died Feb. 23, 1983.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Schumacher of Atlanta and Karl (and Judy) Schumacher of Knoxville, Tenn.; one stepson, C. John (and Mary) Wezeman of La Grange; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Phyllis Hueber of Arlington Heights; and a special friend, Martha.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

ATLANTA -- Wanda L. Burns, 82, formerly of Atlanta, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at 9:15 a.m. at her daughter's home in LeRoy, where she had resided for the past year.

A celebration of life was on Wednesday morning at Quiram Funeral Home. Visitation was on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial is in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mrs. Burns was a manager of Gibson's Discount for several years and also managed the Salvation Army store in Lincoln.

She was born Nov. 6, 1922, at Atlanta to Cleveland and Myrtle Nichols McCombs. She married Theodore J. Burns on June 7, 1942, at Shreveport, La. He died Jan. 17, 1986.

She is survived by four children, Ted (and Jan) Burns of Bellingham, Wash., Susan Lewin of Waimanilo, Hawaii, Mary Woodland of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Charlotte (and Scott) Harrelson of LeRoy; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Narola Powell of Heyworth and Naomi Niewald of Loveland, Colo.

She was also preceded in death by four sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

ATLANTA -- Helen L. Cotton, 90, formerly of Atlanta, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at 5:55 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor, Lincoln, where she had resided since April 4, 2001.

Her body was cremated, and a private graveside memorial service will be at a later date.

Quiram Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Cotton retired from Lincoln Developmental Center and enjoyed real estate on a part-time basis.

She was born June 16, 1914, in rural Atlanta to Donald and Nellie Snow Foley.

She is survived by four children, Don L. (and Lori) Benedict of Sturkie, Ark., Dean (and Sue) Benedict of Atlanta, Dixie (and Ferd) Decker of Atlanta and Mary (and Alex) Hoblit of Atlanta; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maranell McPherson of Florida, and Harriet "Sue" Noe and Marie Patrick, both of Murray, Ky.; and one brother, Bob Foley of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by one grandson and two sisters.

She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Atlanta.

Her greatest interests were her children and home.
