ATLANTA -- Howard L.
Hieronymus, 53, of East Peoria, formerly of Atlanta, died
Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at his home.
His body will be cremated, and
a memorial service will be scheduled later.
Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta,
is handling arrangements.
Mr. Hieronymus retired in 2003
from Caterpillar Tractor Company, East Peoria.
He was born Aug. 21, 1951, at
Bloomington to Arthur E. and Emily F. Horn Hieronymus.
He is survived by three
sisters, Catherine Maciariello of New York, N.Y., Anne
Hieronymus of Atlanta and Marcia Hieronymus of Lincoln; and a
niece, Holly Thomas of Atlanta.
He was a former member of the
Illinois National Guard and a member of United Auto Workers
Local 974.
Memorial contributions may be
made to OSF St. Francis Hospital, Peoria, or the American
Heart Association.

LINCOLN -- James L. Harp, 88,
of Lincoln, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at 2:20 p.m. at
Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7
p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
His funeral will be at 10:30
a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader, with Bill Boice
officiating.
Burial will be in Irish Grove
Cemetery, Middletown.
Mr. Harp farmed in Logan and
Mason counties before he retired.
He was born Dec. 23, 1916, at
Middletown to John and Nellie Raber Harp. He married Wilma
Stone in 1935, and she died in 1981. He married Leta Rice in
1984, and she died in 1986.
He is survived by two sons,
Richard (and Janet) Harp of Mason City and Marvin (and
Suzanne) Harp of Mount Pulaski; two daughters, Yvonne (and
Mark) Cheek of Lincoln and Loretta Jones of Peoria; five
stepsons, Jim (and Margie) Rice of St. Joseph, Merle Rice of
Lincoln, Mike Rice of Lincoln, Jerry (and Wanda) Rice of San
Peblos, Calif., and Forrest Rice of Lincoln; four
stepdaughters, Kelley (and Wyatt) Halcomb of Lincoln, Shelley
Hurt of Lincoln, Ethel Frakes of Houston, Texas, and Wanda
(and Donald) Kramer of Belleville; 10 grandchildren and 35
stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers,
John Harp of Easton and William (and Betty) Harp of Easton;
and three sisters, Catherine Evans of Marianna, Ark., Mary
Bandy of Sullivan and Nellie Davis of Springfield.
He was also preceded in death
by one son, two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.
He was a member of the Farm
Bureau of Lincoln.
Memorials may be made to a
charity of the donor's choice.

LINCOLN -- Althea Hilscher,
92, of Lincoln, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at 9 p.m. at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
There will be no visitation.
Her body will be cremated, and a memorial Mass will be at a
later date.
Burial will be in Mount
Calvary Cemetery, Seneca.
Arrangements are being handled
by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Mrs. Hilscher was a bookkeeper
at Plut's Tin Shop in Lincoln before she retired.
She was born Feb. 7, 1912, at
Seneca to John Joseph and Gertrude Cushing Domm. She married
Noel Hilscher on July 12, 1943, at Seneca. He died March 6,
1990.
She is survived by one nephew,
Don (and Mary) Hilscher of Lincoln.
She was also preceded in death
by one brother.
She was a member of Holy
Family Church in Lincoln.

MOUNT PULASKI -- Frank O.
Volle, 77, of Darien, Conn., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at 4
a.m. at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Conn.
A funeral service at Lawrence
Funeral Home in Darien, Conn., was on Tuesday.
A local service will be at
10:30 a.m. Friday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Carol Andricks officiating.
Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Mount
Pulaski Cemetery.
Mr. Volle was an assistant
professor at the University of Colorado Medical School and
chief psychologist at the Denver Mental Health Center. Later
he moved to Bloomington, where he was associate professor at
Illinois State University and neuropsychologist for the
Mennonite Health Care System.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force
sergeant with Headquarter Squadron 141st Army Airway
Communications System in Manila, Philippines, in 1946.
He was born Nov. 16, 1927, at Mount Pulaski to George Adam
and Iva Florence Newburn Volle.
He is survived by his wife,
Joan Lohnes Volle of Darien, Conn.; one daughter, Susan Volle
of Englewood, Colo.; two brothers, Dan Volle and Paul Volle,
both of Mount Pulaski; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was preceded in death by
his parents.
He was affiliated with St. John Church of Darien, Conn.
He graduated from Mount Pulaski High School and the
University of Illinois and received his Ph.D. from in
neuropsychology from the University of Denver.
He was an avid fan of classical music.

ATLANTA -- Harley W. Beck Jr.,
67, of Atlanta, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Spohn Memorial
Hospital, Beeville, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7
p.m. Wednesday at Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta. His funeral
will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be on Thursday
afternoon in Snapp Memorial Garden, Forsyth, Mo.
Mr. Beck retired in 1990 from
General Electric Company in Bloomington, where he worked in
the maintenance department.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born Aug. 29, 1937, at
Amana, Iowa, to Harley and Lowesa Chase Beck Sr. He married
Carol "Bonny" Paul on Sept. 16, 1977, at Shirley. She died
Sept. 14, 2002.
He is survived by six
children, Harley Dean (and Stephanie) Beck of Mason City,
Ronnie (and Cathy) Beck of Lincoln, Becky (and Raymie) Burger
of Lincoln, Karen (and Don) Beck of Lawndale, Gladys (and
Chuck) Williams of Atlanta and Steve Beck of Atlanta; two
stepsons, Alan (and Lynn) Paul of Bellevue, Neb., and Greg
(and Lisa) Paul of Bloomington; one stepdaughter, Lisa (and
Ed) Birk of Lawndale; 28 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur Beck of Forsyth,
Mo., Charley Beck of Kirbyville, Mo., and James Beck of Pekin;
two sisters, Jane Doolin of Atlanta and Madonna York of
Bloomington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death
by his parents, two sons, one brother, two sisters and one
grandchild.

LINCOLN -- Eleanor Wertin, 86,
of Lincoln, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 11:20 p.m. at St.
Clara's Manor.
Her body was cremated.
A graveside service will be at
1 p.m. Tuesday at New Union Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark
Carnahan officiating.
There will be no visitation.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home of Lincoln handled arrangements.
Mrs. Wertin was a retired
bookkeeper.
She was born Oct. 29, 1918, in
Springfield to Oscar and Lydia Yagow Lenz. She married Matthew
Wertin on Jan. 4, 1942, in Lincoln.
She is survived by her
husband, of Lincoln, and one daughter, Jan (and Roby) Parks of
Springfield.
A son preceded her in death.
She was a member of Zion
Lutheran Church in Lincoln and the Lincoln Woman's Club.
