CHAMPAIGN -- The Balloon
Association of Greater Illinois, in recognition of the generosity of
the farming community in allowing hot-air balloons to launch from or
land on their property, is sponsoring four $500 scholarships for
students majoring in agriculture or an ag-related field.

The scholarships will be awarded on the
basis of exceptional ability or financial need. Applicants must be a
Farm Bureau member, spouse of member or member's child and live on a
farm in one of the following counties: Adams, Champaign, DeWitt,
Douglas, Ford, Iroquois, Logan, Macon, Marion, Mason, McDonough,
McLean, Menard, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Sangamon, Tazewell and
Vermilion. In addition, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen, a high
school graduate and be enrolled in or accepted by an accredited
community college, college or university. Additional eligibility
guidelines are outlined in the cover letter with the application
form. The Balloon Association
of Greater Illinois is a nonprofit organization, incorporated in
June 1990, to promote the sport of hot-air ballooning by bringing
together pilots and potential crew. BAGI currently has approximately
190 members, including 65 pilots.

The club is involved in several
community outreach programs, such as education programs at schools
and civic organizations, a balloon exhibit at Octave Chanute
Aerospace Museum in Rantoul, and the scholarship program.
